{heart} mixing greens...
Some of you undoubtedly recognize it as older, as in vintage-mid-90s, Longaberger® fabric. As a consultant, I was able to purchase 5 yds. of it. Weeellll, it's been sitting around, perhaps since the mid 90s (that's a lot of fabric to just let sit around, too)! I just didn't have the heart to get rid of it during my many fabric purges. The funny thing is, I wasn't even sure I liked it anymore, but it is so stinkin' cute made into placemats! If you would like to make your own round placemats, here's a quick "how-to."
- Make a pattern. I took an old one of my round placemats and traced it onto a piece of newspaper. (Beware, not all "rounds" are the same! I purchased newer ones to replace my old ones and they are not as big--it seems as if I need one placemat for my drink(s) and one for my plate)
- Cut two rounds of the fabric and one of lining. I used flannel drapery inner lining.
- Baste the inner lining to the wrong side of one of the rounds.
- With right sides together, sew around the placemat leaving about a 3-4" opening (I used 1/2" seams). Trim the seams.
- Turn right side out and use a blind stitch to close the opening.
- Press then topstitch about 1/4" away from edge. Done!
Each one is a generous 16 3/4" in diameter and easily will hold a good-sized dinner plate and all of the other accoutrements.
Like a bunny!
I will be adding these to my Etsy store.
Pretty table and the placemats are very festive.
ReplyDeleteYour placemats are so pretty. That pattern would NEVER go out of style. All the ladies that visit will be WANTING to know where you got them! You've updated by making them ROUND! I was just thinking how the oval quilted ones have gone out of style AND do I CARE..."NO"... If I want to use them "I most certainly will"! I'll just call them VINTAGE and everyone will OOoooo&Ahhhhh, hehe...
ReplyDeleteLOVE your placemats and the dish arrangement on top is SOOO SWEET and "SPRING LIKE"!!!
Have a wonderful week,
Donna
What a perfect use for that fabric, Kim. It's sad, isn't it, how we hold on to fabric until it is out of style? However, quirky little fabrics like the one here are timeless. The placemats are darling! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteI love these and you made them seem so easy but my favorite in the post was the lettuce plate. Where did you get that?
ReplyDeleteThose placemats turned out great and your fabric is just perfect. I'm glad you held on to it.
ReplyDeleteI think your placemats turned out great, and they just seem to say Happy Spring. I am a longaberger fan and have a set of dishe in off white and several baskets. Infact your post reminded me of a lovely spring basket I am going to have to track down and make it part of my spring decor.
ReplyDeleteThose are adorable, and I am so impressed you made them. Too cute and love the dishes too.
ReplyDeleteI adore your placemats! I have kept fabric around longer than five
ReplyDeleteyears :)
Hugs,
Donna
These are wonderful, Kim! I can't do round ~ mine would be oblong or egg shaped by the time I was done! I think it's perfect for your Easter table.
ReplyDeleteThese are so cute! I swear I have owned that fabric at some point ;-)
ReplyDeleteThat is great fabric. I can see why you held on to it - and aren't you glad you did!
ReplyDeleteI'm a fan of LARGE placemats, so these 16-inchers are a perfect size in my estimation.
Stinkin' cute is right!!! Absolutely adorable and how great to use something you had stashed away for so long! Great job.
ReplyDeleteeeeeeeeeeeeeek those are to stinky cute!!! I think I might have to make some as well.... maybe I'll make mine egg shape lol... could be cute!
ReplyDeleteOh Kim, your place mats are sooo cute. I love the fabric!! And round - such a good idea.
ReplyDeleteSorry it has taken me so long to visit. You have been a busy creative woman.
