Michigan Trip

Hi friends!  I thought I'd share some snippets of my Michigan trip with you.   I took my camera to the memorial service, but I did not use it.  I wasn't sure if it was appropriate to go around snapping photos.  Afterwords, I was mad at myself since I don't know when I'll see that side of the family again.

My aunt and uncle were married 69 years.  He is still alive and kicking.  The photo on the bottom left is of them on their wedding day.  One of the cousins is putting a DVD together so we can all have copies of these old photos.

Here we are, enjoying ourselves.  My sister, her husband, my mom and I, spent the day at Frankenmuth, MI, which isn't too far away from my aunt and uncle.   The top left photo is my sister.   My mother and I (she is behind my right shoulder) stayed with my aunt and uncle (on the right) as well as another aunt and uncle.  My mother and aunts are sisters, they are from a family of eight children, only one of them was a boy and was born as a twin with, you guessed it, a girl.

When my (crazy, that would be crazy, fun) aunt found out I was envying her Hobby Lobby, she insisted we go after dinner on Friday night.  I was tired, but how could I refuse?!  (All of these photos were taken with my cell phone.)  I graduated from U of M, so had tons of fun seeing all of the Michigan stuff.  Apparently, I was doing a jig when my uncle was taking a picture of me with the M pumpkin, as the pumpkin is not all that blurry.  I could have been laughing because we were right inside the door and customers were coming in!  Can you believe it closed at 8p?  I was savoring all of the merchandise.  The only thing I bought was some tissue paper since anything else I would have had to lug home in my suitcase.  I had to take a picture of all of the knobs, since you ladies who have a Hob Lob near you always talk about them.

I'll leave you with this last photo taken in Frankenmuth.  I thought this wall of colored leaves were so pretty!  The sun is right smack in our eyes so not one of the photos we took has all of our eyes fully opened.  It was fun being "back home" in Michigan, especially this time of year.

  2. Great photos Kim, I don't live near any of my family. They range from 6-10 hours away. It's always wonderful to spend time with them, I know you had fun.

  3. Did you know a new Hobby Lobby just opened up sometime in the past month or so in Lakeland? Finally! For a long time, the closest one to us was Ocala and I can't tell you how many times I emailed the company asking, "When are we going to get a HL closer to the Tampa Bay area? We need a HL!" The answer was always, "We have no immediate plans to expand further south in FL than Ocala," so this past spring when I saw a new one was opening in the fall of 2011 in Lakeland, I was giddy. Now that I've moved to the "house in Hooterville," that's only about 18 miles down I-4 from me. :)

My daughter and I went today to check it out and boy was it B.U.S.Y. It really requires at least a couple hours to see everything so I can't wait to go again when I have more time to leisurely browse. (The Christmas section is AWESOME, but the aisles were really crowded so it was kind of hard to see all the beautiful things up close and personal.)

  4. I live in Michigan, I am glad you enjoyed your trip home. I am from Indiana but have lived here for over 30 years. All of my family still live in Indiana so that is where my family time trips take place. Have a great weekend.

  5. I'm so glad you had such a great trip. It's always bitter-sweet when you have to leave family you don't get to see that often. I know what you mean about taking photos at the memorial service. Hard decision.
