Dollar Store Mirror Frames

Last week I Tweeted that I picked up some Dollar Store mirrors to use for a project.  The project was easy and quick (pluses!).  I'm not sure if the scale is going to be right, we'll have to wait for a future post to figure that one out.

It all started with this original artwork.  Now stay with me here, done by Strapping Lad's girlfriend for Healthy Chick when she went off to college.  It was a triple wall hanging with Faith, Hope, and Love on it.   When I got a look at the colors:  Black, white, a bit of lavender-y pink done on torn brown wrapping, with birds, no less, it got me to thinking.  Can you guess where I'm going with this, or where I'm going to use these???

This called for a trip to the Dollar Store in hopes of finding some plaque that I could decoupage over the top of.  Instead, I found these mirrors.  They just might work.

The pieces were taken apart and decoupaged right onto the front of the mirrors.  I was considering ripping the edges so they would fit onto the mirror proper, but then decided against it to maintain the artistic integrity.  How do you like that, "artistic integrity?"  Would you have ripped them to fit?

The knots were even glued on over the holes where the three pieces were once tied together.  The sections are bubbled a little from the decoupage medium in this photo, but went away after they had dried.   I like that the mirror will be peeking around the edges--just enough to bounce a little light around the room and add some dimension.  Isn't this is a fun way to do framing?  I could imagine a gallery of these with family photos or other artwork decoupaged to the front--why not, for $1 a piece?

  6. I really like this idea!

I have used the Dylon (polyester) dye quite a few times before. Truthfully I have not had all that much luck with it. I hope your project turns out! :)
