Pity the poor deer that would have to walk around with these. I used this salt dough recipe. The recipe was great, the dough was nice and smooth. Artsy Chick jumped on that and made some charms to hang on a mobile project. Fun-Sized Chick made her friend's name in dough and strung it on a gift bag. We also baked them--they could have air dried, but I didn't want to wait that long. I used Lucy's method of fashioning antlers out of foil, then covered them with the dough. I think the dough didn't have enough elasticity to stay on really smoothly--that's my best guess, anyway. I tried to stipple the end with a toothpick, but when I placed them on the tray to bake (over two dessert bowls to keep their shapes), the dough pressed against the pan and flattened out.
I thought I'd place them in this table arrangement so you could get a look at them.
These mini pumpkins turned out pretty well. I purchased the real pumpkins (in the basket) from the grocery store and gave my all white pumpkins a combination of orange, dark yellow, green, and buttermilk white to emulate the genuine ones. I used a paint brush and kind of pounced the paint on.
So I'd say pumpkins happily "pass," antlers, sadly, "fail." All in all, I'm happy with the arrangement. The runner will be on sale at the craft show next month.

Too bad after all that work, but the table arrangement looks great and I thought all the pumpkins were real. Great job.
ReplyDeleteKim, I like them! I think they look great and really great in your table arrangement! Can't tell the real pumpkins from the "unreal" pumpkins....perfect!
ReplyDeleteI would give it a "PASS"...
Lou Cinda :)
I don't think they are as bad as you think! My hats off to you for even trying. Your arrangement is beautiful. Love the cloche with the acorn on the top and the white wooden bowl, and the...shall I go on? :-)
ReplyDeleteI think the antlers look good. But if you had problems then I am not even trying them.
ReplyDeleteI do love your pumpkins! One word of warning. My oldest daughter glittered and painted some small pumpkins and scattered them around the living room and dining room. Several days later I noticed that some had started to go mouldy. I have one ruined table runner and two marks on my sideboard. I later read that you should wash them with bleach as so as you bring them inside. So watch out. I know that you would not have to make another table runner!!
P.S. I could use your advice on my chair. I was going to take it to the upholstery shop in town but I just found out that he smokes while he works and everything comes home smelling like an ashtray! We have always been a non-smoking home and several of us have allergies. Now I am going to have to finish the chair and I am stuck. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
I think your antlers look great Kim and so does your table arrangement. Great job with the pumpkins too.
ReplyDeleteWell at least you gave it a try. And they don't look horrible. I really love the little pumpkins. They came out great. Your whole arrangement looks really pretty.
ReplyDeleteCan you tell me where you got your social network buttons? Did you make them?
Your antlers look pretty good to me. Of course the table looks fabulous!
ReplyDeleteDid you know there is a product that you can attach to real antlers to make a rubber mold? I've been wanting to try it. I'll let you know how it works out!
Kim, I love the pumpkins! And congrats on the grand baby!

I love the little pumpkins you painted. Great idea and they look charming.
ReplyDeleteFound your beautiful comment at Lucy's site, Craftberry Bush. Your antlers look good in the pictures - not every deer can live a posh life. This one just happened to go around the block a few times - probably has better stories than those deer with the perfect antlers :-)
ReplyDelete...and I'm inspired by your great ideas so I'll be following you. Signing up now. Any friend of Lucy's...
ReplyDeleteI think your display turned out beautifully - antlers and all!
ReplyDeleteTake care,

ReplyDeleteWow - you've taken table arranging to a whole new level! I'm not sure if it's transferable, but have you explored Steampunk at all? :D
