Paris Stencil

Hi friends! Thank you so much for your encouraging comments on my deer antlers.  So--what's going on this week in your life?   Last week was busy (uh-hem, that's why I missed posting a day) and this week will be, too, over here at the Homestead.  I'm going out of town on Thursday, but I am planning on having a post scheduled so I stay on track.  Okay, that's enough about the future, today, I have another Lazy Susan redo for you.  I know, I know, enough with the Lazy Susan's already, really.  I think you'll agree this was worth another makeover.  Recently, I ordered a stencil from Maison de Stencils.   I had been wanting to get one for quite awhile.  The thing that delayed my buying one was, I could not make a decision!  I mean have you seen their stencils?  One is as pretty as the next.  I was going to order a grain sack style, but went with the Paris one after I had seen it on a pillow sample.

I purchased this homely Lazy Susan at G Dub with the intent of making it over, of course.  Since my design (12" x 12") was bigger than the Lazy Susan, I shifted the design to use the top portion--I could have also used the bottom portion--which would have cut off the Paris, and added a swirly design.  There's never an end to decisions, are there?

The goose was sanded with my palm sander, but the paint was pretty stubborn.  That, and I need a heavier grit of sandpaper.  I was going to paint it dark brown like my first one shown in the background.  Since there was still a lot of paint left, I used my ASCP Old Ochre.  It was finished it with clear wax, the Ochre was so crisp and bright, I decided to use the dark wax.  Now, it has the aged look that we all love.

I'm so used to "winging" all of my painting lately, that it was a treat to use a stencil.  You know, I like this so much, I may get a grain sack stencil, too.

On another note, I worked on the guest room a little yesterday.  Just making the most minor of changes made a big difference.  I'll be sharing some of the room with you this week.  If you want to tag along with me when I'm out of town, join me on Twitter!

  7. That came out so good, Kim! I love it! I have seen their stencils and been just as confused as to which to get. I think I might look into the one you got! : ) Funny you mention your guest room. Guess what we bought yesterday at Lowes? A ladder shelf like the one you showed! Ha! Hubby saw it and was like "this would work perfect in the office". And it does!

  12. Love your stenciled project Kim. I'm just as confused as you were about selecting a stencil. So many to chose from. If I could afford to buy them all, I would...LOL.
