Fused Scrap Bunting

The title of my post sounds so ho-hum compared to how ha-a-aa-ppy I am with this project!  You all know about my table runner task.  After I got most of the fabric cut, I was going to clean up my mess, but I could not bring myself to throw away these stinkin' cute triangle scraps.

But what to do with such small pieces?  For some reason, the thought of putting two together to make a bunting popped into my head (gotta love those head pops!).  These pieces were quite small, so I knew sewing wasn't the answer--so what was?  Well, the post title kind of gives it away.  This is how I did it:

Materials:
  • fabric scraps
  • fusible backing (innerfacing), I used Pellon
  • extra wide double fold bias tape (I used 2 pkgs.)

Put the flat side of each triangle together, to make one larger bunting flag.  (If you do this, obviously, you only need to cut the triangle size of your choice!)

Cut fusible backing to the correct size.

Fuse the fabric to the backing, trimming where necessary after the pieces cool off.

Notice--No Sewing so far!--and a lot of bunting flags ready to go.

Now they just need to be sewn together.  Tuck the completed flag into the bias tape fold and sew shut.  The pieces made thirteen flags which were sewn 4" apart.  If you really, really do not want to sew, you could glue the bias tape or use a fusible tape.

I am soooo happy with this bunting!  With pieces I was going to toss and about $6 extra, I got 5 yds. of custom made, coordinating bunting!  Note:  If you are hanging this where you'd like to see both sides of the flags, there is also two sided fusible backing.

Since this is made with the fabric from Healthy Chick's wedding, I plan on using it somewhere at the reception.  Cool, huh?!
