Watermarking Blog Photos

Have you been blog surfing and wondering "When is Kim going to do another blog tips post?"  Yes?  No?  Well, my friend, Claire, at Bless My Nest has been wondering about this topic so this post is for her and anyone else who would like to put a watermark on their blog photos.  I'm sure there are many ways to accomplish a watermark.  This is what I use.

First go to Picasa.com and download the free software.

Load your photos onto your computer with your favorite software.  (If you use Picasa for this, they will be stored online.  I usually store them on my computer.)  The below photo is in the Picasa Edit mode.  When you open Picasa, it shows you all of your photos, to get into the actual "Edit" mode, click on a photo and you'll be ready to go.

After you make all of your edits in Picasa, in order to save them and use them on Blogger or anywhere else, you must use the "Export" option.  This will Export your photos to a Picasa Export file.  (When you load them to Blogger, you must upload from the Picasa Export file to get your edits.)  When you click on Export, you will see this pop up screen:

This is your "Export to Folder" screen.  You can see the "Add watermark" box that I checked to show Cheap Chic Home on my Exported photo.  That will give you a standard watermark that I usually use.

If you would like to have a prettier or larger watermark, use the edit option under, Basic Fixes, Text:

When you select Text you will be able to choose font style, color, etc.

You can then type whatever you want right over the top your photo, size it, move it, slant it, add symbols with the Wingdings font, etc.  This option is also good for labeling photos and making blog buttons (see my other blog tips for more info).  My example (below) is Zapfino font, white text, with a little transparency.

You will need to Export this photo, too.  Just make sure you leave the "Add watermark" unchecked, so you don't have two on the same photo.  Good luck and happy watermarking!

  1. I use LiveWriter now but I have used Picasa in the past for my blog photos but I don't think I ever used the export button. I always used the Blog This button. I have just now started watermarking my shots too :) Thanks for the info!

  14. So glad I found your site...I searched for hours to find some of these hints. My buttons are all fixed, but I wish I had found your site earlier. I was wondering about the watermark using photobucket...any suggestions? Thanks again, I'm a new follower. Lori
