Harlequin and Grain Sack Egg-speration

You know me and my squirreling-away tendency when it comes to wood finds at the thrift store.  This project is no exception.  I found these oversized wooden eggs for $2 each several months ago.

I wasn't sure what I was going to do with them at the time.  I decided to go with classic black and white with inspiration from my harlequin juggling pin.  That, and, every time I see something with a harlequin design in Ballard's, I just AH-dore it.

Since I wasn't sure I wanted three harlequin patterned eggs, so I also used some grain sack inspiration.

I really should learn my lesson that I'm not very good at painting free handed.  Then I remembered I had rub on letters--send in the cavalry!

Lesson #2, I'm not good at painting lines, either.  I tried taping them off, but the paint bled under the tape.  (One side is the double m's the other is the single large M.)

The rub on didn't turn out smoothly, so I got an interesting, aged crackly effect.

Lesson #3 - Go with the imperfections!  Although, if anyone has any tips on even getting the harlequin lines straighter, I'm listening--a paint pen, maybe?  For the record, most of these pics were taken with the camera on a tripod--they didn't look very crisp to me, so I retook several--still not clear.  It may be time to investigate a new camera.

Let's look at additional egg-cellent decorating options.

They are right at home with my already black, white, and green hutch.

I know it's a little early, but I'm wishing you a ~

~Joyeuse Pâques~ anyway.

I'm putting my eggs in these blog baskets:

I use my pan a lot. I think it is a good trick and very easy to make. Just fool proof. Just decorate for the season and the kids always love it.

  17. I think you so-called mistakes look pretty darn good. All the things you weren't pleased with, fit in perfectly with that chippy-aged look that is so popular. I think you did good!

  20. I hopped over from WUW! These are fabulous and I agree, they are going to be wonderful. I want some! I will try and follow your hints! I am not so great at hand painting either, but they look rustic and interesting when they are less than perfect!
