What Do You Think About Coffee Beans?

Guess what?  You, yes, you, get to weigh in on what you think about coffee beans.  Grind them and run hot water through them and make a wicked cup of coffee...?  No, not that!  Healthy Chick is planning a June wedding and is thinking about using coffee beans in the reception decor.  So.  What do you think about these ideas?  You get three separate categories in which to give an opinion--let's get started!

Healthy Chick and her Darling Fiance have an affinity for coffee, so we decided to use it as a recurring theme in her reception decor.  Isn't that a cute idea?

We've all seen or done variations on candles in coffee beans--which variation "speaks" to you the most?  We are having an evening reception...

Aren't favors just the cutest?  I'm sure there are an infinite amount of ways (and probably and infinite amount of money you could spend, oy!) a bride and groom could customize theirs to make it personal to them.  Do you remember when giving matchbooks as favors was de rigueur?

These coffee sacks are a bit informal for Healthy Chick's wedding, but sooo adorable.  Maybe they could be "formaled-up" with satin ribbon.

  2. Kim! These photos are beautiful! I love everyone of them (and coffee)! I really loved the small packs of coffee that you said could possibly be amped up a notch with satin ribbon.

  3. I really like the idea of coffee beans at the weddding, especially since both of them like coffee. Natural, simple, earthy but easy enough to dress up.

I'm partial to the white and cream flowers and candles in little votives with the coffee beans, but it would depend on the colours you are going with for the wedding overall. The beans go so well with whites and creams, and the green in both the placecards and the greenery.

I'm curious about the place card displays, though. While very pretty arranged like that, at weddings I have been to, the placecards are already on the tables with a master 'map' near the door. I don't quite understand why they are all together like that. Can you explain that one for me?

As for favors, I like the coffee idea too. I think little mason jars or the cello packs would be better than the burlap bags for a more formal occasion. Also for keeping the beans fresh for the guests trip home!

I agree that you wouldn't want to go bean crazy, but one centrepiece on each table spread throughout the room would look great. If you decide to go with a floral/coffee bean centre piece you might want to consider keeping the candles smaller, like votives with coffee beans.

Just my input, but haha you asked!!

  4. I'm just starting to read the ways to use coffee beans on this post and saying to myself, "small burlap bags for favors" and there they are! What if you combined red berries with coffee beans in the vases? And... you need coffee flavored mints somewhere. Just my humble opinion.

  6. I know I already commented, but then I remembered that I have a recipe for cold coffee punch. I have had it at several weddings and it is so good. If you would like the recipe, contact me at wildberryranch.blogspot.com and I will share.

  7. I have used them in my hurricanes on my kitchen table. It makes the room smell YUM!!

  8. Hi Kim, I loved your idea of the coffee-flavoured wedding reception!! My two daughters have recently been married and it is just so much fun! Have you seen Miss Gracie's House blog? Her daughter was recently married and she had the most gorgeous vintage table displays - well worth a look!

  9. Oh, my! All those options! I have to say the second pic really caught my eye. I'm with you, those greenery things are really cool! And of course I liked the burlap bags!!! Wonder why? Those little coffee bean jars are ADORABLE but may get too pricey. What about little tulle bags? That would be cute and you could coordinate the colors with the wedding!
For the flowers, #2 & #4. Opposites really but I like them both. On the candles, I really like #1. So simple and elegant. For the favors, I like #2 & #3. As for the placecards...overkill??
And I LOVE their save the dates! Too cute!

  10. How about short pillar candles encrusted in beans? Or fresh coffee beans still on the stem used in arrangements? The result is subtle. Also, hypericum is easy to find and it looks like coffee beans, to be used in an arrangement.
There are myriad Fair Trade organizations that create lovely gift bags rather inexpensively. Check out groundsforchange.com or fairtradecoffee.org (awesome chocolate covered beans!) That would benefit the growers in impoverished countries while allowing the wedding guests to partake in the experience of empowering the creators.
    Congratulations on the wedding!
    Happy Sunday!

  13. Okay, keep in mind that I have no sense of smell, so I'm basing my "vote" only on visual interest....

    Floral arrangement #1
I love the shape and the fact the colors and interest in the flowers balance out the darkness of the coffee.

    Candle Arrangement #1
I like that for it's simplicity. I also like the idea of them being on raised stands to make the candles seem more important.

    Favors #3
Honestly, those other ideas to me look a bit cheap. The burlap bags look like there was more effort put into them and they look a tad more elegant to me since they look more like the bags coffee really comes in.

    Place Cards #1
The other idea looks too busy. This idea still goes with the coffee theme, but I like how it's more streamlined. I'd be afraid people would be spilling the beans (no pun intended) with that second arrangement if they are having to pull their names out of that box.

Sounds like a great theme for a wedding!

I've seen candles with coffee beans made right into the candle. That might be something you could consider for the candle arrangement to be a bit different than just coffee beans out on display.

You might also consider some coffee flavored chocolates instead of the coffee beans as favors.

I'm sure there are many ways to incorporate your ideas with others so it's not too overdone with the coffee beean idea.

  14. Kim, what a great idea! With you involved, this will be THE wedding of the century. All of these ideas are wonderful. I really like all of the floral arrangements in the coffee beans, and I love the look of the pink candles in the c.b. Those Hallmark bags are sooo cute. I know whatever you do, it will turn out beautifully. I can't wait to see the photos from this wedding. Will the guests throw coffee beans instead of rice or birdsead? Thank you for linking this to Favorite Things. laurie

  15. These coffee beans decorations are really an awesome idea!

  16. Love the coffee beans with the floral arrangements -- so cute and so neat to have something that reflects the bride and groom's "passion" for coffee!

My daughter is also getting married in June; she and her fiance are both grad students in Philosophy so we are using vintage books (titles reflecting philosophy or romance!) for their centerpieces -- three books, topped with a low arrangement of pink and cream roses. Wide satin ribbon "bookmarks" coming out of the books will be marked with the table numbers.

    Isn't it fun?
    Keep posting about the wedding!

  17. Sometimes the smell of coffee is better than the taste. Loved all these ideas, especially using them to hold name cards.

  18. I LOVE coffee, hence my own blog.... coffeecubbuster.blogspot.com.

I'm actually planning my own wedding and thinking of having people throw coffee beans instead of rice or bird seed. Do you know where those cute little burlap sacs (#3) came from?

    Thanks!
