Grain Sack Ottoman. Finally.

This is both a grain sack ottoman and loft reveal.  Well before Christmas, I started this ottoman--it was the Copy Me Challenge that got it over the finish line.  Obviously, I've been inspired by Marian's creative projects, and am even the proud owner of a MMS original!

If you recall, this was how the loft looked during the holidays.  You can see the ottoman, with its original retro dots and squares (purchased for $20 from CL).  I had to recut the oval top.  The first try was quite misshapen.

I down loaded a font that I liked and used the very high-tech method of printing it out and placing the fabric over it while holding it up to the window and tracing it with a pencil.  I then filled the outlines in using a paint brush (not cutting a stencil).

I measured out painter's tape for the stripes.

It got two bands of welting and box pleats.  Oh, and I used osnaburg fabric.

This lamp got some ORB spray paint and a new lamp shade.  Do you remember the before (below, left)?  It is really a good quality lamp.  I {heart} this lamp now!

This is also my "official" reveal of my completed draperies that I was working on eons ago.  I told one of the Chicks that if I have the bright idea to do a project with ties again, to please talk some sense into me--they take up so much time!

Here is a reminder of the "before."   The chairs and old kitchen table, were taken to Lighthouse Ministries.  I was sad to see my tile-top table go.  I had a lot of good memories from when the children were small.  Although, Fun-Sized Chick chimed in that she, in fact, did not have good memories of it since she always had to sit at the corner.  Sigh.

If you've made the observation that this are could still use some work, you are right.  But like everything else, it will evolve and I'm going to use this area as my own little Beta site for projects I'd like to do that may not fit style-wise elsewhere in the house.

Phew, this project was completed just in time!  This week has been so busy:  I cleaned like a crazy woman since my mom was staying over a couple of nights WHILE we were condo shopping for her.  We have bids coming and going.   I'm looking forward to do doing some decorating at her new place.

I'll be so thankful to rest a bit this weekend.  I can't wait to visit the other Copy Me projects!

  10. The ottoman looks fabulous, and so professional with the welting. I also really love the change to the lamp. I so wish I could find any brand of Oil Rubbed Bronze around here. I spend tons of time in lots of different home improvement stores (my favourite browsing places) here in Ontario, and I can not find Oil Rubbed Bronze. I am on a mission to try one more time this weekend, because I have two gold urn lamps that so need some ORB and new drum shades. Wish me luck.

  23. Thank God I found Sonya! You left her behind the screen door, she's actually beyond it! I was wondering how on earth I was going to break it to you that she hadn't updated her blog since 2006 but yet somehow you were still reading it! But you were right, she's right up my alley and I've already subscribed. She and I could get into a lot of trouble I fear...

    Thanks for the suggestion!
