Funky Fabric Junk with Video

Suh-Weet funky fabric junk.   Since this is the only post I have ready at the moment, I'm an early arriver for the Copy Me Challenge I'm joining my friends Marian and Donna for their wanna-be fun.   During this go-round I'm copying Donna.  This is my interpretation of junk. Although it isn't rusty, chippy, or peeling, it is, indeed, junk.

I got the inspiration for my fabric ball a few years ago while on a Christmas home tour.  One of the women's sewing room's had a fabric scrap ball about 2 ft. in diameter (maybe more).  I had to make my own - why not?

See how well it works as decor in different spots in my entertainment center?

Moving it into my living room--it works here, too--oh lovely, junky decor!  My family thinks I'm a bit crazy, but you all understand me, don't you?

Would you like to make your own?

Never in my wildest dreams, well maybe my wildest dreams, but not my normal dreams*, did I ever think I'd be making a how-to video on this.  *Yes, I shamelessly stole this quote from the Santa Clause movie.  Here ya go:

I'm pretty sure HGTV or the Martha Stewart people will be calling me any day now.

Well, waddaya think?  Is this fabric trash soft-sculpture, one-of-a-kind art for you?

  5. What a truly fabulous idea. I like the idea that it is a piece that can continually evolve as you add additional fabric to it. Great project and your video tutorial was marvelous. I hope we see many more of those, Kim. You're great on the screen!

  10. Absolutely, it's art and home decor! I do quite a lot of sewing & hate to throw away those selvage scraps. I've even seen those scrappy pieces used in quilts. Here's to funky junk! I'm a follower, but don't know if I ever told you that I am.

  16. AHHHH!!! KIM!!! I loved seeing you on your video! I totally understand how you felt about making it because I felt the exact same way when we did ours last week. Yikes! You are so lovely though and it was fun to get to hear your voice. :-) I think the fabric ball is a genius idea and I always end up with those little scraps and it just feels like I'm throwing away money! I'm going to start saving them now and maybe in a few years (lol) I'll have enough for my own fabric ball! Thanks so much for sharing this at Inspiration Friday this week.
