From-The-Bottom-of-My-Heart Tassel

I have been wanting to make a tassel.  Haven't you?  Well, today was the day!  I chose pink colored ribbons, because I have another project up my sleeve that I want this to coordinate with.  This is how it started:

A wooden "Welcome" sign strung on jute, found at Goodwill sometime during the year.  The hearts are approx. 3" x 3".   Confession:  Anytime I see something that I think I could use "in the future" in the wood section at GW, I snatch it up!

I purchased three spools of ribbon, two are 1/2" and one is 1 1/2" wide.  I also purchased wooden candle holder things, which I'm going to call "spools".  They are rather small maybe 3/4" in diameter, along with some fringe.

I cut about 4" of the fringe and rolled it and glued it inside of the wooden holder.  I cut ten pieces of about 4" length of the wide ribbon and sewed them together, overlapping by about half.  I gathered this portion.

Next, I cut fifteen-4" lengths of both the narrow pink and ivory ribbon and sewed them together.  I did not gather the narrow ribbons.  NOTE:  If you are not a sewer you could SKIP the sewing step and hot glue your pieces right to the wooden spool.  For the record, I'm much more talented with my sewing machine, than my glue gun, so sewing it was.  Hot glue your rows to the wooden spool.

I glued the wide ribbon in first, right above the dangling fringe.  Next I glued the ivory, then the pink.

You can see the heart underwent a transformation, as well.  I primed it, then spray painted it ivory.  Next, I took a piece of scrapbook paper that coordinated with the ribbon and trimmed it to the heart shape.  It was then mod podged on.

To finish it off, I ran a narrow ivory colored ribbon through the heart, through a silver button similar in size to the wooden spool and hot glued the button to the top of the spool.  I then wrapped and glued a small piece of the ivory ribbon around the exposed edges of ribbon that was glued to the spool.

There you have it.  My pretty-in-pink heart tassel.  This was quite easy--if you had all of the materials on hand, it would only take about twenty minutes to assemble.

I'm linking to my heart's content...
