Junk Finial

Finials are so very cool.  What's fun about this one is made with unsuspecting beginnings.

This glass base found at GW, maybe from an old lamp?--it has a metal screw band around the top and a hole in the bottom--and a spare drapery rod finial that is into from my ongoing loft redo.  I know you're just looking at the green glass base, envying me.

I was inspired by Angie at The Country Chic Cottage when she made her Ballard Design-inspired finial.  Phew, that's a lot of inspiration going around.  Angie made hers out of a lot of spare parts she had laying around.

I would have liked to have made mine out of bunch of leftover bits and bobs, but I didn't have any.  (Well, not the finial-making kind.)  I did look around at GW, but I think my patience was better with two.  I put the two pieces together with E-6000, primed, finished off with ORB.

Who knew?

Because I can't ever resist a party:

  1. I love finials too. I use them out in the garden to create a homey outdoor feeling in cold, wet, Portland, Oregon. :)

Kim, I know I've said this before but you CONSTANTLY amaze me with the way you can take thrift store items and turn them into great accessories! GREAT JOB!

  9. Kim, what a beautiful piece. It really looks so upscale. Hard to imagine it's bits and pieces blue together. I really must try to find some pieces. It remind me of that book, "Looking for my Missing Piece." Do you remember it? Anyway you've also displayed it beautifully and I am totally envious! Well done.
