New House Jitters

A dear friend of mine is moving back into town.  (Yea!)  Today we will be looking at some basic goodies for her house.  I haven't seen it yet, but she said it's in pristine condition.   Dear friend is looking for new carpeting, flooring, and window treatments.  Even though it's impeccable, the previous owner had a cat, and she (my friend, not the former owner) is horribly allergic.  (photo funonthefloor.com)

My friend is extremely discriminating which means there won't be much done on-the-cheap in her new place.  One thing she's considering is vertical blinds in sheers for triple sliders.  (Confession, I {heart} those and wish I had them in my bedroom!)  She is a little bit frazzled because she and her husband might stay in this house for quite some time.  During their entire married life, they have moved every two to three years for her husband's job so has always chosen neutrals.  Now she is faced with selecting things she'll have to live with indefinitely.  (And what's wrong with staying with neutrals?  The interesting thing is, she's never had to define herself.)

I'm hoping it won't be too difficult.  You can never go wrong with neutrals, flooring should be a choice between warm and cool tones.  Her darling husband would like hardwood in his study.

Ooo, and there are custom draperies and cornices all over the house.  Dear friend was going to have them cleaned.  The cost?  Five hundred dollars!  Gulp, she doesn't like them that well.  Why so expensive?  The cleaner charges per pleat.  Gulp, again.  I told her not to get rid of the draperies before I saw them!  Who knows - fabric is fabric, right?  I'm anxious to see everything, aren't you?   I'm tagging along to help hold down the frazzled-ness and toting my camera, as well.
