Blog Tips - No. 4

 (Image from ubuntugide.wordpress.com)
No, you did not miss numbers 1-3!  When these are listed in the future, the most current will show first, so that one will be No. 1.  It will all make sense.  Trust me.
No. 4 ~ Connecting
Create a Fan Page on Facebook!  Many, many of you have done this.  (Those of you who have done this, feel free to skip this part.)  It surprises me, however, how many bloggers have not!  Why should you do this?
For you:   It's one more way for people to connect with your blog.  For followers/fans:  It's a wonderful way to keep up with you day-to- day.
We all have a long list of fabulous blogs we follow that can be hard to keep up with.  Since Facebook is a social network, every time you post, it will be displayed on the feed, which by and large gets seen daily, often multiple times.  If you want to put out a quick notice, you can do it on your Fan Page instead of, or in conjunction with, your blog post. It's such a great way to keep everyone up-to-date!
Be sure to check your Fan Page, as comments on your posts are NOT noted on your personal page.  You may even want to do a special Facebook promotion.  Michael at Designs By Gollum is having a giveway just for Facebook fans.  What?  You don't want to have to make a blog entry and keep up with a Fan Page?  You don't have to!  Enter, Networked Blogs:

When your blog is part of Networkedblogs.com, you can have your posts automatically posted onto your Facebook page!  Now those of you who saw my plea a week or so ago on Networked blogs, feel free to laugh, it's okay.  I read somewhere on line that you needed eleven networked blogs for your blog posts to automatically be posted onto Facebook.  A few kind souls linked in with me to get me to eleven.  I was also going over some settings and think you can check off a bubble in feed settings when you're doing Networked blogs for auto post (instead of having eleven networked).  I think you'll be fine if you look around on their web page.  If you need someone to network with you, please come over here and leave me a comment.  One note of caution:  I've found the posting can be fickle.  One day last week it took about eight hours for my blog post to show up on Facebook.  The very next day, it only took about ten minutes!  Maybe it has something to do with the volume they are processing???  Best of luck - happy connecting!

  4. Hi! Dropping by from SITS..
I have a Netowrked Blog account from FB, unfortunately Filipinos don't blog that much. Unlike in ur place, blogging is already a part of ur everyday lives. Just kinda frustrating here, they're even lazy to read blogs.....

  6. The feeds are pulled by Networked Blogs on a schedule based on how many followers the blog has - I *think* if you have fewer than 20 followers, the feed is checked something like every 12 hours... so, hypothetically, it could take as little as one minute for it to show up on FB or as much as 11 hours 59 minutes - depending where on the schedule you are when you post. There is someplace on the Networked Blogs page to "Pull Now" if you are impatient. Hope that helps!

  7. OK, Kim, do I just go in and create a facebook page and then the networked blogs automatically set themselves up? How does my facebook page know that I've posted on my blog? Should I name my facebook page the same name as my blog? Should I stop asking questions now and try to get some sleep? Are you going to give me your phone number so that I can wake you up in the middle of the night when these things haunt me? (that's a joke -- don't give me your number, I might have to use it sometime --haha). IF I set up a facebook page, will you be my friend?

  8. I have spent the better part of 2 days working on getting my Facebook page to update my posts. I think Divine Intervention led me to your blog. I just want to make sure I know what I'm doing...in order for Networkedblogs to update my posts I have to have 11 followers? No where on any page I looked at did I find that little tidbit. And I looked at about every page available! I put the Networkedblogs gadget at the bottom of my page so I guess I better move it up. I'll wait to hear from you before I start begging for followers...thank you so much in advance for any help you can give me. Your blog is awesome.
