It all started innocently enough with the purchasing of a "silver" tray that had such pretty feminine details. Nothing that a little spray paint couldn't make look even prettier.
Of course, you know how things things just
I have been thinking about doing this for some time on the wall in my dining room. I originally was going to use black tole painted trays. I even bought one, but the scale wasn't quite right.
The trays are now residing over the dining room mirror. After I painted them, I also glazed them because the ivory-white (I can't find heirloom white anymore) looked too flat.
I'm not sure if I love this look or not yet, I'll have to walk by it for awhile and see if I "bond" with this look. I'm finding I'm more of a minimalist.
This is the platter that started it all.
What do you think? Stay? Go? Add a few more? Replace with "real" plates? Hang in a grid, instead of an arch? Oh, and the far left one is a real pottery plate.
On a decorating note, I decided to go with the ivory-white because when you use high contrast it makes the space look brighter. This room get south sun, but I have room darkening liner on the drapery because south FL sun would burn through your retinas left unchecked day in and day out. Can you see the difference between the cabbage plate and the ivory, below? You may want to try this experiment in your own home.
I will be adding this post to a few linky parties this coming week.
So I get to the end of this post and all I can think is, "I want... no... I *NEED* that cabbage plate!"
ReplyDeleteSo I will scroll back up.
I like the platter wall but I think I might like it more if they were spaced a bit further from the mirror. And what about setting a matching piece (a low one) in front of the mirror to tie it in a bit more. Maybe a lipped cookie sheet?
And have I mentioned my love of the cabbage plate?
These are so pretty, I need you to come find a place at my house that I could hang some. I want a plate/plater wall. But open concept floor plans work against me. AARRRGGGHHHH!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job and I will find a place, I have to.
Cha Cha
Kim,
ReplyDeleteI'm lovin' the look you have going on...leave it like this and time will tell if you need to change anything. I'm doing a lot of WHITE in my dining room too...it's a nice change!
Blessings,
Linda
I love it! The only think you might consider is adding a couple of plates to the buffet as well. I would remove the elephant planter and put a large platter on an easel there with maybe a smaller plate or bowl layered in front of it. I like the way you formed an arch over your mirror!
ReplyDeleteSuch a simple touch, but looks great! I have some silver trays and platters from the Dollar Tree . . I think I need to break out the paint. =)
ReplyDeleteThank you for your great ideas!
oh Kim I love it!!! I say stay...unless the "go" is straight to MY house! LOL!!! Seriously, it looks great!
ReplyDeleteThese look great! It never crossed my mind to paint trays like these. BTW, thanks for stopping by my blog!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE THEM! Love the way you arranged them too. I have a couple of old trays that I was thinkiing of painting, now I'll give them a coat of paint for sure. Lovely idea.
ReplyDeleteStay! Without question, stay! =)
ReplyDeleteLove it! The arc of them is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this! They totally resemble plates! I'm so doing this.

I love this look and I love that you have the trays arranged in an arch. Just beautiful. I'll be looking at those trays with new interest next time I'm at GW. You're an inspiration :)
ReplyDeleteBlessings!

i think the only change i would make is to paint the little shelves a shade or two darker (even just in the creases), to match the mirror a little better.. but i might be totally off-i need FAR more decorating help than you do :) and it looks great!
ReplyDeleteStay!! I love them!
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by my blog today!
Kat :)
Your trays are completely adorable!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I'm with you, live with it for a while and see if you like it. Either way, I'm sure this will inspire a lot of people.
ReplyDeleteI think you should keep the plates just as you have them placed on the wall now.
ReplyDeletelook's fabulous!

ReplyDeleteGlad you could Mi4M!
I love the contrast of the platters on the wall. You have inspired me to see what I can come up with for my blank slate of a kitchen wall!
ReplyDeleteteri
I really love it. Looks fab. The only thing I might change is by adding a monogrammed initial to the top center tray for some extra pizazz.
ReplyDeleteQuick and easy decorating!

ReplyDeleteI like it and I think you should leave it. Great job!
