A few weeks ago I was shopping at the thrift store and was looking at the draperies/bedding along the wall. I kept going back (and back and back) to this drapery panel, it looked so grain-sack like. I checked the price. It seemed rather high for the thrift store... Then I looked at the tag and discovered it was from Pottery Barn! Okay, "high" price forgiven. Well what can one do with only one panel? Glad you asked.
You know I can never leave well enough alone, so I made not one, but TWO table runners. The fabric is a nice, I'd even say "luxurious", weave 100% cotton that is quite heavy. First I made one with ruffled ends, then wasn't sure I was feeling the ruffles, so made one with pleats. Now, I can't decide which one I like best!
I used the existing hems and made the other end and side hems to match.
I really like how it looks with the transferware.
Oops, don't let the dishes slide off the table!
So do you think I'm a bit crazy? What would you have done if you found this great panel? I'd like to keep one of the runners for myself--so I don't have to decide, I thought I'd put them both in my Etsy store. Whichever one sells first, I can keep the second one.
This is what else I've been up to:
I'm even quite a bit further than the photo shows! (The Thomasville lining is deceiving because it's more/less the same color as my linen.) I'm also working on two sets of draperies and slipcovers. Never a dull moment!
P.S. Strapping Lad is starting an internship next week, in Seattle of all places. (Not that there's anything wrong with Seattle--it's just about as far as you can get from FL and still be in the continental U.S.!)
I know....Enough with the rain already, we just can't handle it in the sunshine state! I love the runner, otherwise I might have used it for upholstery!! Cheer up, here's Annie to sing you a song..."The sun will come out tomorrow"

Great panel, Kim! If you couldn't use it on a window, I think runners were a good option. I love the one with the ruffle, but I'm a ruffle nut anyway. I was going to say if you keep them both, you can just change them out to suit your mood.
ReplyDeleteHi Kim,
ReplyDeleteLove the runners you made and I would have made pillows too with that wonderful fabric. So pretty.
hugs

Love the ruffles, Kim. Great score! Can't wait to see your other fabric projects.
ReplyDeleteDid they already sell?? I had to go look, and I didn't find them. I think you made a GREAT choice, and I will never look at single curtain panels the same again! You are the fabric queen!
ReplyDeleteI really like this runner. That fabric is perfect for it and it looks great with your dishes. (I noticed that before you even mentioned it.) I think I like the one with the pleats best because it's different. Great job, Kim!
ReplyDeleteNice table runner and I look forward to seeing more of your chair! I'm covering one in the same color of linen too.
ReplyDeleteI hear you on the rain! N.J. has rained almost all of Spring. So much for my outdoor projects.
ReplyDeleteYour so smart to turn the panel into runners. They are beautiful.

Kim that's some clever re-use of a curtain panel...I totally get your fascination with that section of thrift stores...we have a BIG one near our house that has turned up some fabulous finds linen tablecloths..curtains...panels I too have re-purposed...such fun...I'm partial to the runner with the ruffles...keep sewing

Kim, You did very well with the panel. I love the runners. Sorry the cute kid is going so far from home. Smiles to you, Susie
ReplyDeleteI love them both, Kim. I really like the pleated one because it is so different from others I have seen. Love the more tailored look of it.
ReplyDeleteSorry about Strapping Lad's long distance move. You will have to go visit him- He is in a wonderful spot-xo Diana
Please, please, send the rain here! We'll hurl our sunshine backatcha!

I think the ironstone looks great with the runner too...and the wooden trivet!
You know more of a road by having traveled it than by all the conjectures and descriptions in the world.
