Black Friday ~ Wreath Edition

I know, I know, the real retail Black Friday was last weekend, I just wanted to use "Black Friday".  I was so excited to try this experiment.  I've been wanting a black Christmas tree for Strapping Lad's bedroom, now known as the guest room, for years.  Black trees can be quite pricey, so I did the next best thing.

For some reason I have a surplus of wreaths, so I figured "why not?"  I purchased spray paint for plastic and sprayed away.  It was interesting.  At first I thought, "I'm doing this?", then "Okay, I can do this." to "Wow!  This is really cool!"

I also happened to have a spare wreath stand.  Do you have wreath stands?  I like them because you can add a wreath in an unexpected spot--dresser top, floor...

In person, my wreath looks black except for some spots on the back, for some reason, I was really talented and caught all of the green branches in the photo!  Crazy.  I used the purple bulbs that I showed you in a previous post and some pearly bulbs that got a coat of black glitter.  Note to self:  Paint the object to be glittered in the same color as the glitter.  I purchased a spool of ribbon and used the entire thing.  The bulbs were wired on in clusters of three with floral wire.  For some reason my fingers keep typing "blubs!"

This was an attempt to show you my hair that I just got done today---oops, maybe I'll send it as a Christmas card!   What's your take on black Christmas decor?

  1. such a nice job on the wreath! Looks fabulous with the purple accessories. I'm totally wreath challenged. And believe it or not I did not know what a wreath stand was until today - my hair stylist had one at the salon. Very clever indeed! -diane

  2. I started to write that I'd never tried to spray paint a wreath but...I have! I was thinking how hard it must have been to cover all the branches and remembered trying to paint a grapevine wreath white. Your black wreath turned out MUCH better than my white one.
The black with the purple "blubs" combination is stunning! Way to go girl! Don't think I would have ever thought of painting it black. Very Chic!

  3. Love the black wreath. And I love the touch of purple. A very dramatic colour combo!

I have a vintage aluminium tree that I have been collecting black decorations for. They are very hard to find. I might have to spray paint some. But I will have to wait for spring. It is too cold to paint outside now.

  4. OMgosh, I love it!!! I'm sooo bored with red/green. I'm totally diggin' the black and purple. Awesome modern take. I've never seen a wreath stand before either. Definitely a great idea =)
