Two Graphic Pillows

Warning:  This post contains graphic material - ha!  I kill me!  These are the first of many items I want to take to a Christmas craft show next month.   I think I'll make some table runners, too.  I know that shocks you, since I rarely have table runners featured here.

I found this fun, punctuation fabric recently and it told me--yes, it did!--that it needed to be euro-sized pillows (26"x 26").

I put together two envelope-style pillows.  I'm still going to make about a 1" flange around these--I'm thinking I may take my sewing machine to the shop first as the stitching is giving me some problems.

I'm not generally OCD, but when it comes to matching prints, I guess I kinda am.  This is the back and it matches up.  A word of caution when making envelope pillow covers:  Make sure your overlap in back is big enough to give good coverage on your pillow.  For this 26" square, I have about 5" of overlap.

Before I put these together, since I don't make envelope styles that often, I Googled how-tos.  None of them gave recommendations on the overlap.  The above is what can happen if you don't have enough fabric coverage.  This "oopsey" is only a 1 1/2" overlap.   I'll let you know when I get to the 18" square pillows what works.  I'm going to guess 3" for those.

This fabric is so fun.  I can easily picture these on a teen's bed, or in a family room.  I still have fabric left, do you have any other ideas with mass-market appeal?   Ha, ha, 'cause I'm sewing for masses, now!  Whatever doesn't sell will be added to my Etsy shop, which as of right now has nothing in it, except maybe the sound of crickets~chirp, chirp.

  1. Hi Kim......love your pillows! A little hint I do with them......stitch velcro to the overlaps and they stay closed.
Where is your craft show? I'd love to come see your beautiful items.

  2. I *love* this amazing fabric! You make me want to re-do my bedroom. What about turning some of this fabric into a big basket, like the burlap one you made (and that I love and admire so very much)?

  9. I love your pillows! They are just unique. I would use these in my family room. I, too, am OCD about seems and patterns that match up, I bet most of the crafters are!

  13. Cute fabric. Sounds like my etsy shop-chirp chirp. I had the ambition to start, but with work and family just not the time to make stuff.
