Hey, Girlfriends, how are all of you now that September's in full swing? Since you're here, let's talk about table runners some more. Well, you know "more" as in HERE, HERE, and HERE and maybe even THERE. Have you ever used one to solve a problem? Maybe a mar in the middle of a table, a place on which to set drinks? I suppose all table runners are problem solvers: If for nothing else, than to add beauty and texture to a flat surface.
Some of the fabrics are snippets from her draperies, pillows, and the diamond/black pattern used to cover the ottoman that I now have on my lanai (shown in my Patio Reveal post), which she had at her house for awhile. Those pieces were part of the "skirt" and were already lined, so I piecemealed the rest of the fabrics around it (everything is lined).
It measures approx. 19" W x 40" L. (So it's quite a bit shorter than a standard 72" length runner.) The w-i-d-e box pleats are 4" L x 5" W. Even though it's shorter, it could still be used flat on a coffee table.
The end table doesn't hold a lamp, but I did notice that it had tissues, a newspaper or magazine and a remote on it, so, it got pockets, about 8" deep, on each side, one the full width and one divided to keep things tidy. These were additional "skirt" pieces that were already lined, to the sides were simply turned under and top-stitched on.
All in all, I think it's a fun little solution. :) You know, now that I'm looking at it, this might be a good idea for over the arm of a chair (just leave off one set of pleats and tuck under the cushion), then you may have to hunt for the remote a little less.
Don't forget about my UPrinting giveaway! You have through Wednesday, September 14. There is a low entry rate, so your chances of winning are much better.

Love the pockets. Great Idea. And of course I love the use of scraps!
ReplyDeleteThat is such a great idea! I love the combination of fabrics used elsewhere in the room and the pockets are perfect!! Your mom is going to love it!

This would be just the solution for those remotes that are sitting on top of the coffee table.
ReplyDeleteI love the fabrics you've chosen, as well!
Oh, that is such a good idea. I just put a small shelf in the car to take to my dad for this reason. The table won't hold everything he needs it to. One of those runners would be great for him.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea! This is an idea that should go to retail.
ReplyDeleteKim, girl...you have always got the cutest projects. I am loving this one. I used to have a little side pocket to tuck under my mattress that would hold a book or magazine and this sort of reminds me of that...but waaaay cuter! The mix of fabrics is great...really like that so much!

Love this Kim! Oh my gosh, my folks have a similar table and I'm going to attempt this for them for Christmas! What a fantastic idea.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing!

Very clever, Kim! I'm sure your Mom appreciates form meeting function. I think once you have less room to deal with, multi-functional pieces become more important and to have something be pretty, too, is a definite plus.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite thing is how you made the pleats on the ends and the pockets! So cute, clever and practical! Really a great idea!
ReplyDeleteI like it! Great idea for your mom. I have been toying with ideas for corralling electronics for my place... ;)
