This year I decided I wanted to go black-tie glam on some decorations. These pumpkins are my first glam trial. Here are a few tips that I figured out along the way, 'cause I know you all are going to want to make some for yourself!
The mini pumpkins that I painted white a couple of years ago were used, along with decopage medium and a paint brush.
I decided to try using the sections of the pumpkin to make stripes. I found that using a paper towel folded to a point, helped get the glue where I wanted it. Or more succinctly, off of where I didn't want it.
Propping the pumpkin on its stem helped keep a minimum amount of glitter from smudging off. (You can see the spotted one is sitting like that.)
I found that it's better to let the glue dry before reapplying to any "bald" areas or touch ups, as the glue would glop up. It also worked better if I tapped the extra glitter off with the end of my paint brush, because my fingers got glue and glitter on them pretty quickly--like you wouldn't see that one coming.
I'm thinking I'll do several more and add to a hurricane as a part of a black and white (or maybe silver?) arrangement. So do you think it looks like the "glam" is going to work--or would you opt for orange or white pumpkins? (We, at the CCHomestead, all liked the solid black one the best!)

Go for the glam factor. Thats what I plan to do! They turned out really nice. Thanks for the tips too!
ReplyDeleteLoving the glam look with your pumpkins! This year I'm working with white pumpkins. Though, recently I saw some wrapped with jute and I really like that look as well mixed in with the white. For me, I keep going back and forth between a glam look or a natural look for holidays. I like them both!
ReplyDeleteThose are so neat! I did some painted white and some black then I took a glitter pen and went down each seam of the pumpkin. They turned out so cute, I also added ribbon in black and white! I like your polka dot one!
ReplyDeleteI'm now following you on FB!

I love the idea of dong this to pumpkins. I love new ways to make pumpkins sparkle!
ReplyDeleteI like the solid black one too! I have some glitter that looks white in the light, but glows in the dark. That would be great for halloween pumpkins in black and white! Cool!
