Hey all! Thanks for hangin' in here with me. This past week I only posted twice. I may be MIA in Blogville, but, I assure you, I'm working hard outside of Blogville. Today, I thought I'd whip up some DIY Pottery Barn dominoes. My post title reads Pottery Barn, although, you can't buy them there that I know of. This is what I'm talkin' about:
You know the one. You've seen it before. When I scanned my latest Pottery Barn catalog this week, I knew it was time to spring into action. This is an easy Sunday afternoon project you can do while your Darling Husband is napping. (Ha! You'll never guess when I made mine! And if your husband naps like mine does, you can make several sets for Christmas gifts while you're at it.) It takes no more than an hour.
I didn't take "Kim In Action" photos, but this is so straight forward, I'm sure you can follow along.
1. Purchase or find in your scrap pile a 1" x 2" board.
2. Cut into 2 3/4" lengths using a table or miter saw.
3. Using your favorite sanding method, sand all of the sides, including taking down the sharp square edges a bit. I used my palm sander and held that in my left hand while I maneuvered the blocks with my right hand.
4. Paint or stain if you would like. I wanted to give mine a sheer coat of white paint. My spray paint was running out, so boy is it ever sheer.
5. Use a paint pen (Go, paint pens!--ya know, I'm going to express that every time, till the novelty wears off) or paint brush and make a midway line. For the dots, dip the end of a new pencil eraser into your paint, dab off on paper, then press onto block.
So easy! Line up (okay, I'm such a geek, I lined mine up exactly the way the PB catalog has theirs), stack, scatter, or play with your dominoes. So, there, PB.
Loverly. Another no-cost project--gotta {heart} that!
Oh, and what have I been up to?
This.

Coming soon:
Kim - that is just a darling idea and I whizzed through my PB catalog so quick I missed it! That would be GREAT in a game room, wouldn't it? Love it and thanks for figuring out the right size! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteThey look fabulous. Now I don't remember seeing them, but they really are fantastic. Good for you and great tutorial. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteWell, someone has been busy! : ) I wish I could say the same; I feel like I haven't accomplished much. I feel like I'm swimming in paperwork, emails and moving van estimates at the moment. I did start a project today and now that I'm done with work {yay!} I'm hoping to get some creative things done.
ReplyDeleteHi Kim,

ReplyDeleteI love it when anyone does a PB knock-off. That store is WAY too expensive, so my hat is off to you my dear!
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw these I thought they were huge!
ReplyDeleteI think I would like to try them out of a 2x4 and make them like 3 1/2 x 5".
Love how yours turned out.
