New PB Rug and New Paint

Hello ladies--My post is late today because I thought I'd left my camera at my mom's house and found it later in my purse.  (I swear to you I had looked in there, but didn't see it.)  I wondered why that thing was so heavy.  That's the reason you're seeing light-flooded photos, they didn't get taken till late afternoon.  Did I mention I was going to paint?  No, I sure didn't!

It all started when I found this rug at G Dub of all places.  It's  8' x 10', wool, and for you astute observers (or those of you who read the post title) a Pottery Barn rug.  I found it for, drum roll and trumpet fanfare, $60!  I thought it would work in my DR.  You may remember from my Top Decorating Mistakes Post, I didn't like the jute one that has been there.

After I dragged it home and DH and Strapping Lad put it in place for me, this is what happened to the room--Red Overload.  Hey, hey, clutter overload as well.  My choices were to put the jute back, or, or, well, paint...  One of the deciding factors for the paint was, I was never happy with my furniture on the coral--the furniture is yellow-y.  Warm tone on warm tone, blech.  I didn't think of that when I chose the color.  But, Ka-Yowzah!  I love seeing a color and print in here (or is it there?)!

Here she is redone.  This is the same green I have in my kitchen/family room.  It's Ben. Moore's Ivy Lane.  It's actually quite a shock to walk by this new color.  The buffet looks much better though.  I think it takes away some of the distinctiveness of the DR.  What do you think?

PAINTING REMINDER:  Changing your paint color will make your furniture look different--so if you're not liking your furniture, maybe you should consider painting your walls--definitely easier!

See the hallway to the left?  That wall continues over to the kitchen area.  That was painted (it was also coral) so the color wraps all the way through.  I really only painted two walls, the window wall still needs to be painted (I'll bet you didn't even notice), but I couldn't get the drapery rod down by myself.  (It's a darned good thing I don't have OCD, the window wall can wait awhile.)  The third wall is the same chocolate brown curved in from the LR.

The rug looks so much better with the green.  I decided to switch some accessories around to play.   The Chicks and I missed the big mirror, so I brought it back.  (It never got hung in the foyer.  Oh, well, another day, another decorating experiment.)

Here's a pulled-back "after" shot.

Here's a trumpeter, now!

Has this happened to you?  What did/would you do?  Do you like how this turned out (be nice!)?

I'll be sharing:

  3. I love this color, Kim! Great rug, too. If I had done this, my hubby would have said, "Change the rug, I'm not painting!". : ) And I just would have waited for a business trip and done it myself. It's so true that your furniture can look different with a new color on the wall. I think it lightens up the room a bit, too.

  9. You made a fantastic choice to paint. The green just calms the space down and looks fabulous with your new PB rug. You got a whole new look for $60 and some paint. I doesn't get any batter than that.

  13. You know, I didn't notice the window wall! I do love the new color. The new arrangement on the buffet looks beautiful too. What a great deal on the rug. Looks like it's in perfect condition. Tell me though, why didn't you like the jute? I've been thinking about getting one. But I worry about cleaning it.
