Party Solutions & Giveaway Reminder

When events roll around at the Cheap Chic Home, it's always a fun challenge to see how everything's going to come together.  One thing that always needs addressing is how I'm going to round things up to be convenient, neat, and as attractive as possible.  How do you assemble things for your parties?  You know, pretty containers for all of the necessities?  Here's a few more romantic, Jane Austen shower ideas that I used last weekend with which I was happy.  Shown above, rolled toile print napkins in lacy Ikea plant holders.  You read that right, plant holders.  I had purchased these three pretty containers with the intention of putting potted plants in them.  As the decorating progressed, I thought they would be good for napkins and plastic forks/spoons.  I had a stash of napkins that I pick up at Tuesday Morning when I find something that's pretty or I might use in a craft project, so those were put into service.  My Mom bought me gold flatware sometime ago to use during the holidays, that seemed fitting as well (oops, someone forgot to buy plastic).

The rest of the container solutions:  Clockwise from top, center.  Ikea plant holders, gold flatware in basket, Jane Austen quotes in old-style frames, decor corralled in an oval frame, tea in basket with the decorative tags I made put into service with labels like "Raspberry Tea," gold spoons in creamer, another Ikea planter, spools on a plate sitting in a bowl.

Additional solutions

You saw the dining table in my last post, I wanted to point out that the bench was pulled over to the table to maximize seating.  We didn't use it there, but we did pull it over to the living room seating area and used it--it's nice 'cause you can fit at least three people on it, more if they're small or skinny (which leaves me out, but I do know small and skinny people!).  I was so delighted with the tablecloth shown in the left hand photos.  Do you remember it from this tablecloth post?  Even though it was made for another table in my family room, it fit perfectly on my contemporary glass table!  You can't plan stuff like that.  Healthy Chick even found a Jane Austen font.

One last little shower Copy Cat solution.  On a recent trip to JoAnns, I couldn't resist taking a peek at the wedding isle again.  For the record it looked like there were several MOBs in the isle (not brides, hmm).  I saw this pretty silk flower/organza ribbon garland -- "I can do that!"  One organza spool later...I used hot glue with three silk flower heads glued every 14" or so, that I cannibal-ized from Healthy Chicks wedding decor and made two floral garlands.  I'm thinking I may reuse this idea for other seasons.  (Oh, and I shut the doors on Darling Husband's "storage" office during the party.)

On that note, I want to introduce Copy Cat Day, any project that you made that you were inspired to copy by another blogger (see my Jane Austen post), friend, popular store (i.e., Pottery Barn, Ballard's, Anthro etc.) is purr-fect.  Monday, July 18, I'd love to see you all back here to link up your Copy Cat ideas.   Grab the little kitty button below and start planning.

I hope ya'll don't mind be breaking my shower post down so much.  I feel like if I made one post, it would be ever so looong.   I tried to find photos of the girls to add, but couldn't copy from FB.  I guess my lesson is, take photos even if I know they aren't going to be the best.

Giveaway Reminder
Today is the LAST DAY you can enter my Chocolate Espresso Bean Giveaway!  We don't see a lot of chocolate giveaways here in blogland, so take advantage of it.  There aren't a lot of entrants, so your chances of winning are pretty good.  Also, spread the word for me, while you can.  Thanks and good luck!

  1. I use different containers for that type of thing, too, Kim. Sometimes it winds up being used just from me looking around and trying to figure out what will work. In other words, I guess I don't have things I keep specifically to corral silverware/plasticware or napkins ~ I just try and use what I've got on hand.
