Favors, Framing and Shelf Paper

Welcome back to the DIY Wedding Event!  These favors are straight-forward (almost).  Healthy Chick knew she didn't want any ol' candy.  She either wanted five Jordan almonds per Italian tradition, or something geared toward her wedding theme.
We ended up ordering chocolate covered espresso beans.  All's I can say is a big fat gourmet "YUM!"  I found a great on-line source called Mocha Magic.  Some of the on-line places would not ship during the hotter months.  One place would have sent them if I also used express shipping--that would have added $50 to the total.  Mocha Magic guaranteed them safe or they would send out a new shipment and their shipping was free.  I even e-mailed them to double check their policy and I received a personal phone call.  All in all a great experience.  I figured I'd need about 16 lbs., they sell in bulk so I ordered 22 lbs!  We ordered dark chocolate as they are such a classic.

This is the only wedding project I had help with!  The box in the middle of the table held 11 lbs.

Here is where it gets interesting.  First off (this isn't the interesting part, yet), our sheer ribbon is also from B. B. Crafts.  It was $1.25/spool for 25 yds.  We used three spools for 100 favor boxes (the boxes came with silver ribbon and white 1 1/2" round Thank You tags).  We should have ordered an extra spool as we ran out toward the end and used the green satin ribbon that I mentioned in an earlier post.   The same Martha Stewart monogram was used as on the programs.  The plan was to print it out on cardstock.  Well, ha ha ha, the scrapbook cardstock was too heavy for my Darling Husband's printer.  I made a quick trip to the scrapbooking store (again, didn't want to drive all the way to Michael's) only to find it was closed.  for.  business.  Wanting to get this project done, I went to Tuesday Morning which was on the way home since they have some crafting supplies.  All of their scrapbooking papers were the heavy ones, too!  What to do?  Okay, NOW the interesting part.  I went up and down every isle at this point looking for anything, in any shade of green.  When what do I see?

That's right, shelving paper!  I looked, I pondered, I purchased!  Kind of like Vina, Vidi, Vici, huh?  After I got it home, I cut it into 8 1/2 x 11" sheets (with xacto knife) and ran it through the printer to get my monograms on it.  Then I cut those out with a Martha Stewart circle cutter--she really worked hard on this wedding by the way!  You could also use a 1 1/2" hole punch.

Can you believe how much it resembles the fabric?!  I couldn't have gotten a closer match unless I color-copied the fabric itself.  We used our cut circles with the Thank You circles to give them stability.

Use #2 for shelving paper...

Matting

This was really an out-of-the-box idea.  We held the reception in a golf club with photos of golfers all over the place.  In the room we used there were only three pictures and there were two pillars entering the room with one picture each.  They were matted in a solid green -- my how convenient.  I decided to cut the shelf paper in the size of the golfer photo, mount it to poster board, add an enlarged photo of the bride and groom, and added...

Simulation--imagine dark green outer matting.  Florals are a little rough at this point.

Custom Floral Corners constructed with leftover styrofoam from the coffee bean shipment, popsicle sticks, Dollar Store flowers, moss, and hot glue.  "Sticky tack" was used to place the matted photo right over those poor golfers.  This was used used on the two pillar pictures.

  2. You are so creative. That shelf paper was (is) perfect but only you would have thought to keep looking in the non paper aisles.

  5. What a creative idea to use shelf paper. The favors turned out so pretty with the added touch of the monogram! Weddings are so much fun! We actually had both of our daughters get married only one month apart, so that made for an eventful summer.
