Family Room Before & After

We now interrupt our Christmas decor posts to show you a redone family room.   Here's the after.  The client kept her big pieces of furniture, including the kitchen table and chairs, counter stools, and sofa and loveseat.   The console table is from CSN, this post is not a review, but I was very happy with the quality, and the style was perfect for the homeowner.  The chairs flanking the table are from the dining room, we needed them to fill out the large wall space.  (We left the cellophane on the lamp shade because the client wasn't sure whether she liked it or not.  The lamp, not the cellophane!)

This is a quick before shot of the sunny family room, kitchen area of the home.  It was a pale beige color.   Now, it's Ben Moore's Shakespeare Tan.  Isn't that a fun name?  The color change, alone, makes a huge difference.

The top of the cabinets got some tweaking.  I thinned out some of the plants that were already there, moved pictures that were previously on the wall and added a pop of gold plates.  I was so happy with the gold; tan and gold usually look horrid together, but this paint color has enough green undertones that they really worked well.  We have new hardware for the cabinets which will be installed soon.  I was in the mood to do flip photos so - weeee, we get a few of them today.  Warning:  The code does mess up my spacing, so there will probably be some gaps.

To the far right in the before photo, you'll notice a tall end table that looks like a stack of books.  In the after photo it is in the corner of the foreground - you'll get a better view further down.  You may notice, the homeowner collects elephants!

Just changing the paint, pulling the sofa into the space, and getting a cohesive style made a big difference.  We were going for "Casual Elegance."  You'll also notice, the homeowner added crown molding in the after.

Obviously, I had a lot of nice things and good bones to work with.  Doesn't the after look so cozy?  The stripe looks phenomenal in the space and you'll notice my signature runner.  The window is off-center on the wall, so we hung the curtain rod centered on the wall, then used the fabric to balance the look out.  The sun was going down, so the light is doing funny things to the colors - the wall is not yellow.
 Not a flip photo.
Another view of the drapery in the corner.

We added a nice chunky drapery rod that compliments the cherry cabinets in the adjoining kitchen.  The draperies are a linen-look blend in a rich deep blue, the homeowner's favorite color.  Yes, the blinds are staying, we may hang a sheer over them--In Florida, the sunlight is really a force to be reckoned with.

Not a flip photo.
As promised, one last looking showing the chest.  It was too tall for an end table, so it is serving as a console.   The side table that the ceramic lamp is on, was the homeowner's that was not really being used, that we pulled in from another room.  There is a coffee table on order that should be the last major item we put in place - I could not find the perfect table locally, so I ordered that on-line as well.

Next week, we'll be returning to our regularly-scheduled Christmas decor posts, including some of these:

Edited to add:  This post is sponsored by the folks at CSN Stores.

In the meantime, I'll be hanging out here:

  12. the room makeover looks fabulous! I really need to add some greenery to the tops of my cabinets. Everything just kinds 'sits' up there haphazardly and I need to take some time to make it look pretty.
