Fabric Fun Thursday No. 26

Today I have a pillow for you that was tacky in July, but now it's terrific in December.  Why?  Well, this cross stitch started out "as is" in a red plastic frying pan.  You read that right, red plastic frying pan!  I purchased it in the summer with plans for it now.  Who wants to ditch a perfectly good piece of cross stitch?

I disassembled it, which amounted to pulling it out of the glue and untaping it from a cardboard backing.  Next, I bought a fat quarter of fabric to use for the frame.  (For the record, I didn't have any fabric in my stash that I was "in the mood" for. )  Since I wanted fairly even gathers on the inside and outside of the border, I cut a circle in a larger diameter than the cross stitch.  I gathered both the inside and outside of the circle, then pinned and sewed the inner side of the ring to the cross stitch.  For the reverse side (not shown), I cut a piece of plain red fabric (about 11 1/2" dia.).  I sewed the front to the back, then stuffed it, to get a cute little round pillow.  I'm linking this pillow with Robin's wonderful blog All Things Heart and Home, All Things Merry and Bright party.

Now, let's take a look at the features from last week:

At Morgan Made It, Morgan made the darling, darling ribbon advent calender.  Oh, Morgan, please make one for my powder room!

We have another advent calendar from Atelier Caroline, this time it's cute stockings and sacks.

Days at Buttermilk Cottage linked up this pretty tablescape.  I like that it's simple, contemporary, and classic all at the same time.  Nice job!

Your turn:

Remember, these don't have to be items you've made yourself.  Pretty rooms, great deals, vintage finds that contain fabric all count!

The fine print:

Link up rules.  If you don't abide by the "rules," you will surely get COAL in your stocking this year!

1. Link your post, not your general URL. (Click on the title of your post. Copy and paste from your address bar.)  This is important, I was going to feature someone today, but they didn't link properly, so I didn't want to sift through their last two weeks' of posts!

2. Be polite.  Link to this blog with my FFT button or refer to this event in your post so others can join in the fun.

3.   Please no direct Etsy or store links.  It's okay if you are showing us how to do  something, then putting it in your store.

4. DO YOU LOVE COMMENTS?  Please try to visit 3 other links and leave a comment.  You'll be glad you did--there are so many talented and friendly people to meet!

  6. I'm with you! I hate to see a cross stitch piece (well, some of them!) go to waste! You did a good job on the pillow! Round pillows are NOT easy to do!
Thanks for hosting your great party!

  7. HELLO KIM!!! Do you hear me shouting over at ya? Well, are you surprised to see me? I finally made something that had fabric in it! You look shocked -- haha. Now Kim, there really is fabric in that frame up there. In fact, there are two "coordinating" fabrics....lots of fabrics. So I get to play over at your blog today, and that just thrills me. Thank you for hosting such a fun party and I will be back to visit lots and lots of the links!

  8. Kim, it's me again. For gosh sakes -- I forgot to tell you how much I love your Christmas poinsettia pillow. That was extremely clever of you! So I emailed you about my dining room set -- just let me know if you think if some "smashing" way to salvage the set to look like "me", okay?

    ((((((((((hugs)))))))))
