A Console Found Me

Once again, I'd like your opinion on console tables.  Why, since I just asked you a couple of weeks ago?  In my Loft-y Decisions post, I asked you all your opinions about console tables for this spot, below.

This is my loft.  All along, I wanted to put a console table flanked by two chairs.  Upon further reflection and more junk storage (and believe me, this photo counts as an "after" shot).  I decided this space would be much more practical if I put a sofa and coffee table up here and maybe another chair.  That way the kids could use it more of a hang out rather than a pretty walk-through space.  Are you with me on that?  My goal is to get it presentable for the holidays.  Now, onto a big fat
SO,
In the meantime, Healthy Chick brought this home, and we had to find a place for it:

This console used to hold electronic equipment in my mom's old entertainment room.  The problem?  I love this size of furniture here!  This is where the "so" comes in.  Since this is not the best quality, how does either of the top photos strike you for this spot?  The console can easily carry a lot of closed in space -- which I like for storage.   I stuck the lamp here to make it look like it belonged in the space, soon other accessories followed.  A secret?  I love how the lamp looks lit at night it just glows right here.  One last question...

This is the table that is under the green tablecloth in my loft picture.  It's our kitchen table from a former home.  When everyone is home, we don't all fit at it, so when we moved into this house, a new kitchen table was a requirement.  We are using the chairs that go with it with our current table (along with new ones).  Should I donate this?  I would like to get rid of it, since it's not adding to our lives.  My consignment store won't take it because the tile is dated.  It was custom ordered, so was quite expensive.  If I tried to sell it on CL and only got like, $50, I'd probably cry.

One last look at "new" console area.  These are the questions I'd like your help on:
  1. Which console table to you like for the living room?
  2. Do you agree on a sofa for the loft?
  3. What should I do with my old kitchen table?
  4. As a bonus question:  Would you do me a favor and "like" my FB page?  It's been hovering between 188 and 190 for weeks and I'd like to get it decisively to 190.  Thanks so much!

  1. Do you know that quote of 'Don't keep anythihng if it's not beautiful or useful....'by William Morris...or something like that.....Well, does that apply here?

Thank you so much for coming by to see Modern Country Style. I'm intrigued as to how you found me!!

  2. Ok I like the size and I see what you mean about the lamp lighting and such. However, judging by the elegance you have around there, I can see some pieces you have in this picture....I do not see the flow of the piece along with the others....It is serving a purpose. Can you paint it and change the hardware....perhaps get really creative in your painting and do a a Harlequin pattern...not sure why I thought of that, but that is what I can see based on this photo. Going to LIKE you FB:)

  3. Oh, I love both of the console tables above. I think the top one is best if people need to walk around it (curved edges), but I think the bottom one is more interesting. I'm not sure about a sofa in that space. It looks like it might be too narrow and it would be quished. Is there another way you can make this space more than just a walk through? What about a drop leaf table that can be a console when you want it to be "pretty" and a game table when you want function for family? Just a tought.

    I already "like" you. :)

  4. I like the second console picture with the basket on the bottom. The first one seems more formal, but not being able to see the rest of your living room furniture I may be wrong. Regardless I like the earthiness of the second one.

I think a sofa may be too much furniture for such a small area.

I think there are several things you can do to repurpose that nice table. I would probably chip out the tile, sand down the wood, stain it darker, and retile with updated tiles. Maybe marble or glass tiles in varying colors of your choice. Then I would put it in the loft and turn it into a desk for a study area or another quiet place to work on a lap top or sew. In a pinch it can be brought downstairs and used as a buffet or extra dinning. A chair next to it for a cozy reading spot would look nice too. Regardless of what anyone else thinks, if you love a piece of furniture then you will be happy with it in your decor. ~Ames

  5. I like the idea of the sofa upstairs. I think that spot is great for a hang out area.
I like the first console for your LR space. (Just a thought, I'd put a taller lamp on the console or change the lamp shade so it isn't the same as the other one in the picture.) I LOVE lamps! I'm not sure you can have too many!
Do you have another hang out spot that the table could go to? It would be great as a craft table. Or even in the garage with a piece of plywood over the tile to use as a work space until one of your kiddos needs it for their dorm or apartment!

  6. I like the first console the best. I also think a sofa would look fine in the loft. The kitchen table is a tough one -I know I personally keep things for sentamental reasons and it really is just not worth it -Do you have co-workers or church members that are going through a rough time and need furniture for a new home? You may feel really good being able to give your table to someone that will take care of it and be appreciative of your giving. Keep us updated on your decorating
