Family Photos: Color or B&W

Repost from September 16, 2009.  Dear friends, I am at my mom's for a few days while she is having a medical procedure (it's routine).  I hope you will enjoy this old post.  It was done in the first week or two of when I started this blog, so I'm assuming it will be "new" to many of you.  I hope you all have a wonderful week in front of you, I will see you Wednesday for Fabric Fun Thursday, from then on I should be on a regular schedule.  Thanks for your patience!

Have you ever wondered whether you should display your family's pictures in black and white?

Here is a good way to discover if you'd like it.

Lay out

the pictures you have in mind.

(Above, the tape measure is at 48" to see how these would look on a picture ledge.)

Take a digital photograph.

Next

upload your image into your editor

Select the option to make it black and white.

Then

Compare the color image with the black and white image.

Which do you like better?

It's that Easy!
***
Comparing

our above two examples, the photos in the top image

don't give your eye a good stopping point

The second image, is more calming to the eye.

For this installation,

we chose the black and white.

Using the gallery frames, gave the pictures even more definition.

There is no right or wrong, it just
personal preference

In general, black and white will give you a more formal look

and should help transition if pictures are from different "eras"

Colored pictures will generally be slightly more casual,

So,

it may just depend on where you will display them.

The above display uses three 4-ft. and one 2-ft. Holman ledges from

Budget Friendly Note:

You can also get very similar looking ledges at Ikea.
