Pedestal reminder.
After I primed it, I painted it red, then black. Then it got some distressing. Normally, I like the red peeking out of the black, but this time I didn't love it. Then I went over the entire thing with walnut stain. But it's not that big of a deal.
Just like Marty, I made a newspaper ball, then hot-glued my moss to it. I used the first grapevine wreath as a base for the ball.
I hot glued some of the nuts and pinecones and leaves. Some of them just got tucked in.
I untwisted the second wreath and broke some pieces off to loop it over the moss ball.
The flower is real, it's one of those preserved ones. I can't decide if it looks too "fake-y" or not, but I'm leaving it in for now. I'm sorry to have to do these tight photos on my buffet. I'm working in the dining room, so it's in a state of flux right now.
I had a busy weekend and I have a busy week ahead of me, which includes a trip to my mom's. (Her house is an hour and a half away, so it's no quick trip.) Before I go to her house, I'd like to get this done:
It's a queen-sized headboard I got to replace her old king-sized one, and it needs some work. It was a CL find. I chose this one because I really liked the lines. It is pretty beat up. I paid the seller $20--I'm not sure if it was even worth that (sorry thrift mavens). I'm hoping it will look good - heck, I'll shoot for "great" - when it's done. The weather in FL is hitting normal summer weather, which means the humidity is sky high. I'll have to work on this outside, so I hope I can get the paint to dry. (I may move it indoors for that.)
Even though this post isn't technically a tabletop. I'm going to link with Marty's Tabletop Tuesday, since she was my inspiration. If you would like to see a patriotic tabletop, please hop over to my prior post.
There is still time to enter my patriotic star Giveaway.

This is very cute! I will try this! I made a big letter 'G' covered with moss for my friends birthday...check it out at http://threepixielane.blogspot.com/2010/06/blog-post.html. It is titled 'A Gift for the Gardener.' Everything has an initial or monogram in the south!

ReplyDeleteYou crack me up. If I ever come to your house, I'm going to have to go around sticking my finger into everything to see what it's made of. I mean who would have thought this would be put together with paper and tape. Fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI have a pretty little wooden pedestal bowl that looks awesome filled with pinecones for winter, but needs something cool for summer. This will be perfect! And I love that you can just use newspaper as the base! Lovely idea. :-)
