Tablescape Tuesday

This is so fun - have I got a lot to share!  You all drooled over my bargain cloche (shown above), yeah, I don't blame you - was anyone else lucky enough to find one at TM?  The base was a $1 plate found at GW that I was gonna use for something else, and the candle stick base is a "What?" perfect match for $4 from Target (so far they are just stacked, careful now!)

Did you notice my pretty mirror plopped in front of my metal grate?  Okay, this is as good as it gets - it was snatched up curbside - yep, I rarely am gutsy enough to do it, but how could I leave this beauty behind?  She's got some paint missing here and there and a bit of a chunk out of one edge, but can you see it?  Huh?  And...How do you like my Santos?!  A boutique in town had a few and I just had, had to I say, get one.  Because the base is open it is referred to as a cage santos.  My sad topiary attempt is hanging in there for now.

Uren't she purty?  Her hands freak Fun-Size chick out.
Who loves needlepoint?  I do!  I do!  I purchased this several years ago and forgot I had it till I cleaned out the dresser.  Below, left, is the original condition.  It is slanting because it needs to be stretched.  I looked for on-line directions and tried blocking it on a piece of plywood with tacks shown in the right photo.  It didn't work very well and the needlepoint canvas seemed pretty fragile.

So...I ended up sewing a piece of fabric on to the back ignoring the crookedness and have a beautiful pillow, for the record, I purchased it at a flea market and the day I bought it, it was half off.
I just {hearts} it, I do!  This post is chock full of fun stuff - the keys are an antique store find when I was shopping for my last client - had to get a little something for myself.

Ta Da - my antique dresser.

It got some sanding, I was going to stain the top, but couldn't get it sanded well enough to take stain - sooo, used bonding primer before it got the yummy, buttery yellow.

Glazed (I tried walnut stain over the yellow, but it was darker than I wanted) and knobs replaced.

Some sanding.

  9. Hi Kim,
It is all so pretty! I love the color you painted the dresser. And I just can't believe that someone would throw such a gorgeous mirror out! I just pulled out of my neighbor's trash (tee, hee!), a very large, very heavy galvanized metal tray! Not yet sure what I will do with it, but I love it! You've done a fantastic job!

  14. LOVE the yellow! I need to try this glaze craze, I'm a big ol chicken and have never glazed anything. It looks so great, much better then just a flat paint. I need to try it. And great job snagging the mirror!

  26. I am not a yellow person, and I usually avoid it at all costs, but I can appreciate someone elses. I really like the color and I sometimes think paint brings out the best in furniture.

  27. Everything looks gorgeous! Yes, that dark walnut stain can get away from you and get a little dark very easily. The finish you achieved looks perfect on the yellow. I also love your santos and the choice to put the needle point in a plate stand. Very clever and unexpected.

  33. Visiting via Under The Table and I was drawn in by this yellow chest because I also do a lot of painted pieces but I haven't gone with this color yet, well except for my front door. Anyway, love it and then the Santos. I have never seen such a thing or heard the term but she is definitely cool. The midwest is so white bread. See what we are missing. :)
