New Bargain Bathroom Lighting

It all started here.  Kinda.  See the light fixture above the mirrors?  Okay, stay with me on this.  You will see it has the larger electrical connection on the right with a white electrical cover on the left?  This fixture is really track lighting that was meant to be mounted on the ceiling, "Why did it get mounted on the wall?," you might ask.
Well...   Larry, Mo, and Curly The electricians who were responsible, placed one of the electrical connections about 18" from the wall, and the other about 12" from the other wall.  My thinking was with this curvy number, we could disguise the Stooges electricians' blunder.  Unfortunately, the ceiling light didn't like hanging horizontally.  After awhile the connections weren't working properly, so it didn't work at all.  We still had three recessed lights, so the Chicks were not left in the dark.
Several weeks ago I found these light fixtures at Tuesday Morning and put them in my cart.  At the time they were marked $39.99 ea.  I still couldn't justify spending eighty whole dollars on them, so put them back.  On.  The.  Shelf.  If you've had to buy fixtures lately, you know that that is not a bad price at all.  I spied them again about a week and a half ago for - you can see it circled - $24.99 a piece!  They definitely came home with me then.

One up, one to go.  After!  Yes, I did these myself.  The first one took me about three tries (don't ask, I do this kind of thing pretty regularly, but I had problems this time).  The second one went up easily--experience, ya know.  (What you can't see, is that track light hung like that for about a week before I got back up to disconnect the other rod that was holding them up.)  Can you see the left one is further away from the wall than the right?  Well, hopefully, we will be able to forget they are not centered properly and just use 'em.

I thought I'd give you a tour of the rest of the Shabby Chic/Cottage bathroom.  You were curious after all, weren't you?  Oh, I hope you were!  {Happy face!}

The wall color, which is a bright peachy pink, was inspired by the towel embroidery in the upper left corner.  Left to right:  The black framed picture is art ripped out of discontinued {b'waa, so sad} Home Companion magazine.  The rose hardware is from the Rachel Ashwell collection at Target.  What do you think about the fabric?  The window and shower curtain are a twin sheet set (also from Target).  The shower curtain is the flat sheet with pink rhinestone rings and the window treatment is made from the fitted sheet.  The very center photo is a cross stitch that I bought pre-stitched on clearance from a craft store.

Mini problem solver:  I got the clear pink glass accessories from the Shabby Chic collection, too, but they disappeared on the granite, I slipped an ivory tray under them, so now they don't have to fight with the stone.   Ideally, lime green and blue towels are used in here, but ya never know, with kids I'm happy if they're just clean (the kids and the towels).

Because, you know, I can never pass up a party:

  2. Too bad, I liked the curved lighting above the mirrors. It looks great now too. I love that shade of pink! Custom shower curtains are the only way to go IMO. Great job! I like your new header too.

  3. I had to laugh! We have the same problem as we put a full mirror across double sinks when we built the house but the electric boxes weren't centered so I had to buy lighting that I could center and cover the box!!! Not sure what to do when we change them out!! Yours look great and at least you have good lighting again!!

  6. How pretty! It makes a huge difference! I cracked up at how they installed your old lights incorrectly. Sometimes you wonder how people even do things like that...
    I also LOVE the shower curtain and window curtain tiebacks. Very pretty!

  9. I love the color of this bathroom. This room would put even me in a good mood in the morning. I applaud you for doing the electric work, I will take on any other project but I am such a chicken when it comes to power. About the electrical box placement, I never let contractors or their subs make any decision on their own. I totally micro-manage my projects by pretending I know nothing about how the work is to be done but I am so interested that I just can't tear myself away. That is why I find it easier to just do it myself.
    Thanks for sharing. You have inspired me to try a mosaic tonight.

  10. Oh goodness! Thankfully you were able to change the lights out with little additional cost (hiring an electrician to move the boxes). Looks good!

  12. I'm so impressed with your lighting skills! It's one area that i shy away from. The lights look great and good thing you didn't need the stooges to come back and install, right?
    Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving the nice comment on my fan planter. Don't you love it when something just goes together like that?

  13. Your bathroom is beautiful. You did a great job of fixing that lighting problem, I admire you for putting them up yourself. My hubby won't let me try, I think he's afraid I would burn the house down. 8) Oh well.

  14. Choosing the perfect Bathroom Lighting might sound easier than it actually is. But finding the right one can prove to be difficult especially if you want it to be near perfect which a lot of dedicated home owners do nowadays.
