Tie How To

This is a separate post that goes with:
Make Your Own Chair Slipcover in an Afternoon

Ties:
What I essentially made was a double fold strip. (If you want to copy the slipcover and don't want to do this, you can buy ribbon, or cording, or double fold bias tape and sew the side shut.) For my chair, I made twenty ties. (It sounds like an awful lot, but they go pretty fast.)

Cut strips. My strips were 2" x 16". If the fabric is thicker, the strips will need to be wider to accommodate folding.

I folded it in half with the wrong sides together, then pressed.

Then I folded each raw edge into the middle and pressed again.

This is what it looks like after pressing three times.

Then fold the sides together.
The last pressing!

I like to turn the end over before sewing, so the raw edge gets turned in.

I then sewed along edge with the folds.

Finished tie.

The ties were sewed about 7 1/2 inches apart on both the front and back.

Pin the ties toward the fabric. Sew where my thumb is.

Results!
