Hey kids! I am posting this for Donna at Funky Junk Interiors. The link I added earlier, I had used before (Bad, bad, me!). This is a brand-spankin' new one!
I covered a plaster pillar that looked somewhat like this one above--yummy-licious, huh? (This one will get it next!)
~This is the actual pillar~
First I traced around the end. When I cut it out I added 1/2" all the way around for a seam. Then I cut the length and width around the pillar (approx. 37" x 31") and sewed it into a tube.
This is the tube and the circle. To make putting the pieces together easier, pin the circle at north, south, east and west points. Pin the tube in equal four points as well.
Match up your pin marks in the above step. While pinning together, make small cuts almost to the seam mark.
This will help the round edge of the top lay flatter as you stitch it together.
Stitch,
turn,
you're done!
It really took 30 minutes.turn,
you're done!
Then I staged like crazy - wink!
(Notes: The crease around the top of the pillar is from the burlap fold. I did not try to iron it before I put it together AND I ended up putting two pieces of poster board inside to keep it stiffer around the sides.) All materials came in at around $4.
Yee-haw!

Sounds like you know how to sew. It would have taken me longer than 30 minutes.
ReplyDeleteLove the fish, they just caught my eye.
Thanks for the tute...I hate sewing tubes, but your method (visual) is helpful! Looks great too :o)

Brilliant! Looks so great and I never would have thought to do it. That's why I like it so much! I see pedestals at the Goodwill all the time. I might have to pick one up now and try this one. Thanks.
