Baby Crib Spring Advent Calendar

Boy, oh boy!  Did I ever look at a lot of advent calendars and baby crib spring Pins!  This is what I came up with!  You may remember the chalkboard baby crib sign I made for my store in a previous post.  In an effort use up my spare parts, I decided to make one of these.

The muslin bags were hand made (by me), they are approximately 4" x 6" (if you don't have a lot of time on your hands, I would suggest skipping this step and buying them online).  You can get them pretty reasonably priced and it will save you a lot of tedious work.  I threaded ribbon through the tops for draw strings.  (It took four rolls.  Ha--you can see Dec. 1 has green ribbon--oops, the 1st trial!)

The reindeer were stenciled on using a Tim Holtz die cut.  Shown HERE.  The numbers were from a stencil I had originally purchased from JoAnn's.  I used two colors of turquoise and some burnt umber to give it a more vintage feel, although, it's rather hard to tell in these photos.  I did not think it was necessary to use fabric paint.  If you decide to so something like this use a bristled paint dauber, not the foam type.  I started out with a foam one and it just didn't get into the narrower parts of the deer.

Of the crib springs I'd seen, I really liked those that were framed out in wood. That would (no pun intended) have been my preference, but I just didn't have time to get even more detailed this year.

I found the bearded man, he's carved out of wood and was in all natural tones, at a local antique store--gave him some paint--and he became my blue-hatted Santa.  You can also see that I hung the crib frame using regular picture wire.  I did that because there was an existing hook already there from a picture I removed for the season.

The oval frame was around here from previous vignettes, as was the 25.  I just added ribbon to have something to hang the numbers from and hot glued them.  Tossed in a few traditional ornaments and called it good.

Here's a couple of shots so you can see where it is located in the house.  My home doesn't take too well to "shabby" projects, but they get worked in occasionally, anyway.  Because, well, they're fun, interesting and unique!

I'm crossing my fingers that the girls enjoy the calendar.  It's the first year I've done one and only Artsy Chick and Fun-Sized Chick are really at home now, and they're teens...  On the up side, they will be able to carry out most/all of the advent activities on their own.
