Upper Eyelid Surgery Before/After

In the spring, I went in for a (long overdue) physical. Little did I know how much the doctor would find wrong with me!  I needed to go to a heart doctor--I'm okay, I periodically have an irregular heartbeat and need to take fish oil or baby aspirin.  I had a sprained ankle, I was referred to get a consultation on my eyelids to see if they needed surgery.  Little did I know that my droopy eyelids where a problem, I thought it was just aging!  (It's heck to get middle-aged!)

The surgery is called blepharoplasty and is a cosmetic surgery, but droopy eyelids start impairing your peripheral vision, so it becomes a medical concern.  The procedure was easy, I was only "out" for a few minutes or so while they numbed my eyelids, then I was awake for the actual surgery.  My scarring is minor, recovery wasn't a problem.  My eyes were done in mid July and the anesthesia still isn't 100% gone.

The below photos aren't the best befores and afters, because I wasn't trying to get a picture of my eyes, but I still think it's a pretty good illustration.  In the before, I was taking some new photos for the blog (what's up with how blond my hair is?!)--see how my eyelids are sitting right on top of my eyelash line?  In the after photo, I was getting some "last hurrah" photos of my "long" hair (I'm not sure if it's been this long since I was a teen!) before I went to get a haircut.

It's pretty wondrous what a difference makeup and a cute camo sweater can make!  Anyway, I think you will be able to see the results of my surgery in the photos.

Epilogue:  I didn't get all of my hair cut off, after all, just trimmed.  And, I'll change my blog photo as soon as I look up the password to my photobucket account.

  6. You look great. I am going to have the same surgery in the next few weeks. I have had a terrible time with my vision and I can't wait to do it.
How was being awake during the surgery?

  7. The results of aesthetic Eyelid surgery are usually long-lasting, but they may be affected by heredity and lifestyle factors.
