I decided to once again peer into the crystal ball of the future to see what we might have to look forward to this year.
Most likely plenty of sewing and fabric projects--> What I know "for sure" is I will be making a
- friend's window treatments soon, and want to work on
- a baby quilt. I'd also like to make myself
- a tote and one to
- giveaway. I need to decide what to do with the
- coffee sack I won from, Marty at A Stroll Thru Life, too, at the moment I'm leaning towards
- another basket or a tote. I have
- two furniture reupholsters that I'd like to get to. Remember the
- bargain settee and my
ripped updeconstructed chair?
(hmm, maybe I'll fix the dangling drawer pull, too.)
Furniture --> Well, I could put the chair and settee from the previous list here. Two of the Chicks and I made a trip to Robyn Story Designs during the Christmas break and purchased a quart of ASCP, so the dresser in the guest room will be painted, maybe as soon as later this week.
(I, for one, am tired of looking at this "before" photo!)
Projects--> Artsy Chick and Fun-Sized Chick both want bedroom updates.
Technical--> Darling Husband gave me the go ahead to get a new camera (for Christmas). I need to decide what kind to get and learn how to use it. Do you all have any tips, or favorite camera models? The only model name I can remember is the Canon Rebel, 'cause who doesn't want to be a "rebel" now and again?
Blog Design--> How do yo all feel about the WordPress vs. the Blogger trend going on now? Do you have a preference of one over the other? Does a blog on WordPress look more professional to you? Do you care? I have been asking some of you who've made the change how you did it--it's such a big-fat public decision. I'm considering switching over, for me it's an issue of sitting down and doing it and figuring out all of the particulars. I don't know about you, but taking the time is a big factor for me.
To Ponder--> Will bird motifs for spring remain strong, as well as, nests and eggs? Will book page projects remain popular...? What is the fate of chevrons???
And this all starts this week!
I have a Canon Rebel T1i and a Canon 50D. The Rebels are really easy to use. I looked at someone's Nikon and it was so foreign to me. I am happy to be a Canon girl. There are so many tips and tricks for photography on Pinterest that will help you. One thing though...you will get sucked in. You think all you need is a camera, then it's lenses and photo editing and..........
ReplyDeleteI thought I would weigh in on the blog location thing. I might change my mind, but I am staying at Blogger. I DO think that many of the blogs that switched have lost their 'personal' feel. They look too professional to me. I don't want that to happen to my blog. It's too 'corporate" looking for my tastes. Just my thoughts...
ReplyDeleteOn the blog trends...I have some of the same questions. What is the next craze?? lol What it usually takes is a super cool cover or story in one of the big magazines...so I will be checking each one as they are released. I love the birdies....so I hope they stay. My wish would be for more color. White are always great...but would like to see a push for color too! Loved reading your thoughts...:)
Wow you are going to be busy! Enjoy your projects I look forward to seeing some of the results. Take care!
ReplyDeleteHi Kim, looks like lots of fun projects!! I'm hoping to get more sewing done this year for sure. So many things in my head! As for cameras, I did tons of research last summer before getting mine. In my price range I compared the Canon Rebel EOS T3 to the Nikon D3100. If you are a serious photographer, can read and understand manuals, then Nikon is definitely the way to go in the $500 range. The canon, is way easier, very light and super easy to use. But, you have to fix the color on the photos. Nikon photos always come out with perfect color and no editing. I have always had Nikon cameras, but wanted to try the canon because it is so user friendly. They are both really good in low-light situations. Pros and cons for both, but honestly I'm still a Nikon person.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you have some plans to take you through the rest of winter. I always enjoy your blogs. No opinion on the blogs other than that I like blogger--but I do my blogging just for the fun of it--not to be professional. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteI tried Wordpress and I really didn't like it as much. From what I've read, unless you want to go full tilt and pay for the "pro" version, it's not as customizable as Blogger. I felt like I needed to know a lot more about HTML and CSS in order to get the same features. Just my opinion...
ReplyDeleteI use a Kodak Z740 "bridge" style camera. I'm still learning, but I honestly like it better than hubby's schmancy Nikon DSLR. If I remember correctly, the Rebel is also a bridge style.
Thanks for sharing all of your creations this past year! Hope you find all kinds of inspiration for your upcoming projects and that 2012 will be an amazing year for you and your family! :~)
Canon, Canon, and again I tell you, Canon. I have good reasons for this but that's my answer. You won't be sorry!!!
ReplyDeleteGotta say- I am not a big fan of WordPress...it just seems a tad "removed" from the realness of the person I have come to know in Blogger. It loses a bit of its personal touch for me...but that is just me.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog, Kim, and would follow you if you make the change. I think you will know when/if that is the right move for you.
Happy New Year-looks like you have a lot of ideas for 2012. I, too, wonder what the next big BLOG phenonomen will be- xo Diana
Looks like you have a lot to keep you busy. I will be waiting to see what the fate of chevron is.... Love my Nikon !
ReplyDeleteI'm the MOST excited about that baby quilt! :) :)
ReplyDeleteHi Kim,
ReplyDeleteYou are starting off the new year with lots of energy. I see many exciting projects in the future and I'm anxious to see them!
hugs
Sissie
Well, I love seeing that settee and I know you will make it beautiful, Kim! The lines on it are gorgeous and it can only look better with the "Kim touch"! : ) I'm going to take my projects as they come. I have a few things lined up to do within the next month and then we'll see where it goes from there!
ReplyDeleteGood projects. Your husband is AWESOME! I need a good camera for blogging. But it's hard to take the plunge.

Wow, you have a few things on your list. I have a Cannon Rebel and love it. Don't judge the camera by my pictures. I don't take the time to get them perfect, because I am always in a hurry doing tutorials and I am just not patient. You will have to Google around, but I read that only blogger blogs will have followers. In March the other blog programs will lose there followers or have to up grade and pay to keep Google friend connect. So, if I was you I would not change just yet and do a little research
ReplyDeleteCarol
In my opinion I like blogger because it seems more user friendly, even when I visit other blogs. I like blogger blogs better. They are easier for me to navigate. And about cameras-I am cheap. I use a cheap, easy small canon and I just got a new cheap easy canon last month cause I got a spot on my lens I couldn't get off. I like having a camera I can whip out of
ReplyDeletemy purse at any time and get a photo before anyone knows I've taken a picture. When they pay me to take photos I'll buy a Rebel.
I got the Cannon Ti2 and LOVE IT!. I had a Nicon D80 a couple of years ago and my pics came out fuzzy. I never got the hang of that one. But, the new Cannon is much easier to use and all of my pics are in focus!

ReplyDeleteI don't have an opinion on the blog choice or the camera. I have only been blogging about 8 months, my daughter created mine for me. I have small digital camera that for now works ok for my picture taking.
ReplyDeleteBut how nice to have to choose!!
So glad I found your blog.

Thanks for the shout out, Kim!
ReplyDeleteGood Luck!
