No, wait a minute...make that two baskets! And, here it is (!) turned into "basket" planters for my faux-liage. The size was based on the print of the bag and is very similar to my original, although a little bit narrower. Below, if you remember, is what it looked like to start with. Since I didn't want a "basket" that tall, I did some creative cutting on the yellow lines.
Heh, heh, you'll see have have another piece left, which, hopefully will be coming to a blog post near you! I followed the instructions from my Burlap Basket Tutorial. I used a spare piece of burlap I had for the bottoms. The smaller one (about 18" around) has a cuff on the top that is folded outward. The top of the larger one was banded on the inside and hemmed. It got two "belt loops," since I didn't want to cover the printing, with only one strand of jute strung through and tied in a simple bow.
Isn't it nice how they snuggle right in, even though this area is a little more formal?
For some reason, I had to work a little harder to get this basket together. I'm not sure if it's because I had a stiffer innerfacing, or did not take the sack apart. I figured I'd be sewing it together, anyway, so left it like that. If I did it again, or if you make one, I'd take it apart at the seam before you start. (I remember thinking unladylike thoughts at one point.)
Gah, this is so cute! I thought the picture was of a swan, cough, cough, however, I believe it's actually a stylized coffee bean. That's what I'm sticking with.
So versatile--it also works as a floor planter. Isn't it fun to take humble, functional items and transform them into home decor?
Oh I love this idea. I agree, I think the burlap is way too scratchy for a pillow, but the baskets are fabulous. You are so talented. Love them and they look wonderful with your plants. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteThese are so so so cute! I love the baskets you make.
ReplyDeleteI think that was a great idea, Kim! So nice to see something other than a pillow or framed sack.
ReplyDeleteThose are so cute Kim!
ReplyDeleteGREAT job~ I love them. AND you still have a piece left? Guess you won't be using THAT to make underwear with being as it is so scratchy!;>) That logo does look like a swan! The table they are staged on/under is just darling. xo Diana
ReplyDeleteI like it! And you got TWO baskets plus extra left to play with! Very good!
ReplyDeleteOh it is great! It is amazing how you can mix styles, I think it looks great there! I have about 6 coffee sacks I am saving for just the right project. It is a challenge to maximize the design and not cut it up!

Great idea Kim! Mine is still draped over a chair. It makes a graphic throw and I have not had the heart to cut it just yet!
ReplyDeleteI like the one as a floor planter. Looks great. I love the idea in your previous post with the s'mores goody bags.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I was thinking swan too! I love the basket idea. They came out so cute. I have some sacks in the garage but they don't have such cute graphics on them. Hmmm, maybe paint!
ReplyDeleteHi Kim! You're smartest one! I love what you did with your burlap! Looks wonderful. I have to tell you that I thought that was a swan too! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for popping in to see me and the Le Creusets cook very well. I've used them a bunch! ;)
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
What a cute idea Kim! They look great!!! Enjoy your weekend, Gail
ReplyDeleteThose baskets are a brilliant idea and they turned out great! My daughter brought me 4 great burlap bags from a coffee shop she does business with, and now I know what I can do with one or two of them...I hate the idea of a pillow made of that scratchy stuff! :)
ReplyDeleteI am in love with what you did with those sacks!!! Brilliant!
