Dropping Off and Visiting

We dropped off Six-Foot Chick at college today.  I only shed a few tears as we left.  (Sound off moment:  &^*#@! camera!  You can't "redo" life.  This is the clearest photo I have.)  One of her closest friends drove separately, so I don't think she minded that mom and dad left shortly after we got her bed made--Drat!  Okay, she was practically shooing us out.  Her classes start at 8:30 a.m. this Monday.

Darling Husband didn't mind if we took a side trip to Carol's booth that was about a 20 min. drive from the campus. Carol of The Polka Dot Closet has the cutest space where I saw many of the creations she shares on her blog. Unfortunately, she wasn't there.  I know, sad face. I didn't e-mail her ahead of time, either, as this has been a hectic week.  For the record, Darling Husband took my photo.  I soft focused it, because it wasn't very focused to begin with.  I'm thinking it was either because he was talking on the phone while he was taking the photo, or his eyeglass prescription is worse than I thought and this is the way he "sees" me all of the time!

While at the Orange Tree Antique Mall, where Carol's booth is, I purchased this pretty plaque.  It's not an antique, what can I say?  It looks quite at home with my red-themed hutch.  Hmm, now that I think of it, maybe this is why I had a hankering for chocolate on the ride home.

  1. Well now this brings me back 7 years, to when my first daughter flew the coop for college. Yes, she shooed us out, too!

I hate to admit it, but as much as I enjoy empty nesting, I would love to have my girls back home, but little and still in winnie the pooh sleepers!

Oh well ... that's how it goes!
And by the way, I think ALL husbands should see their wives through a bit of a haze.

  3. PS--she's a beauty! You should be proud--and carry a BAZOOKA to fight of the attentions of those who would keep her from her studies. ;-)

  5. Oh, do you mean we are supposed to leave right away? I think we hung around for most of the day when we dropped my son off his freshman year! LOL! Although we found the free food and drinks they were giving out, so I don't think he minded. Great plaque, Kim! I love her booth!

  12. So, I am catching up on blogs and thought I would stop in and see what you where up to!!!! I see! Thank you for the shout out! I have relatives in town and took them to Daytona Beach today or I would have been in to Orange tree. Your daughter is way to cute to leave home LOL. When I dropped my son off at UCF he couldn't push me out the door quick enough! What a fun time! We have 4 years to try to meet, lets make it happen!

  13. I cried when I dropped my daughter off that first year and so did she. But when she decided to transfer to a local school and live at home---I really cried! JK
Your daughter looks happy and excited to start a new chapter of her life.
You couldn't have been that upset if you went shopping!

  15. I did that on Thursday - she let us put most of the room together before she wised up and shooed us away! I was sad today when I realized she would not be having Saturday night BBQ with us - this is her second year away, but it feels more permanent since she signed a 1 year lease at and apt. ):

  16. Your daughter is so pretty!
She's now in college and I know the feeling the first time my daughter went to college in a far place. I felt emptiness at first.
