Gift in a Can

This is a fun, easy way to wrap small gifts or candy.  I got the idea from one of the big craft blogs last year.  For obvious reasons, I wasn't able to show you these then.  I saved the photos so I could share them with you this year.  The "how to":
  1. Buy cans of fruit with a ring-pop top.  Be sure to check the bottom of the can to make sure it can be opened with a can opener.
  2. Open the bottom of the can with the can opener, leaving the pop top in tact.  Husbands are really great at eating the fruit for you and leaving the can out for you to use.
  3. KEEP the metal bottom that was cut off.
  4. Fill with small candies OR A GIFT CARD AND PAPER SHRED!   I found the gift card and paper shred a great wrapping idea--it keeps everyone guessing and would be a great surprise for a teen niece or nephew.
  5.  Using LOTS of hot glue, replace cut off lid.  I ran a bead of glue around them inside rim, then placed the lid in, then more glue. ( I did not have ANY problems with the lid falling out or anyone getting cut.  However, if you are worried about little ones, I'm sure you could use cardboard.)
  6. Wrap and tie a ribbon to the pop top.  (I used brown craft paper with a strip of scrapbook paper.)
My kids loved these--They were so surprised.  They even asked if they'd get them again this year, isn't that funny?

My next post will be on my latest food crush...

Don't worry, these whip up so fast you'll still have time to make them for Christmas or a last minute gift, if you need to.

    3. Husbands are good at eating the fruit and leaving the can for you? This would NOT happen at my house! : ) But very cute idea!

    9. LOVE this idea! I remember as a kid there was a booth at the mall that would "can" our presents. The pull-tab idea would be even more fun! Just a small suggestion: this would be made even easier by using the kind of can opener that opens with a smooth edge (the type that Pampered Chef sells) this would require just a small bit of glue to secure closed, would not be a risk for getting cut and would look as though it had never been altered.
