I have been following the blood type diet for a month, now. So far, I have kind of lost 9 lbs. It's pretty easy to follow and I like the premise. I am blood type A, so there are lists of foods that are considered "highly beneficial, neutral, and avoid". It generally steers me away from meat, which is okay. My lunch consists of something with beans (not all beans are on my "beneficial" list). It steers me away from wheat products, too.
The problem I'm having is, I'm not eating enough. I say that because I have headaches. A. LOT. The funny thing is, is I don't really get very hungry. I get the most hungry mid afternoon, so I generally slice up some carrots at that time, then go on to have a regular dinner, often with no carbohydrates. I've also noticed that I can't concentrate as well, that really bothers me.
Back to the "kind of" comment in my first paragraph. I was driving the kids to the beach one day last week and looked at the north and south signs to get on the expressway-- This is a route I take frequently-- and couldn't figure out which way I should go! That was scary. I let Healthy Chick drive the rest of the way. That day I ate extra Sun chips at the beach (we were out of popcorn or I would have taken that). For dinner I had 1 1/2 pieces of pizza. After that, I gained 1 lb. on my weigh in. Since yesterday was a holiday I eased up somewhat, but in no way "pigged out."
I decided that I will re-tool my eating plan this week. Usually weight hangs onto my body like grim death and I know I have blood sugar problems, so I am crossing my fingers that I can get this ironed out. I really do like this eating plan.
I hope you don't mind me deviating a little from my regular posts. I just wanted to get this off my chest, since when I sat down at my laptop my head was splitting! I had a slice of Ezekiel bread with natural peanut butter, so I'm feeling better, now in case you were worried. If you've used this eating plan before and have any pointers, I'd love to hear them. One additional note: I have a weight loss widget at the very bottom of my page. I'm going to leave it at 9 lbs. for the time being, I hope you don't mind.
Kim I am really happy I helped to inspire you! I'm truly flattered! I am thrilled for you and your new healthy journey.
ReplyDeleteNo foods except refined sugars are off limits for me. I just eat everything in moderation, drink tons of water and do not eat at night.
Here's the key to success as well, *exercise*!!! Having headaches is not a good thing. Have you looked up the *clean eating website*? It's not really a *diet* per say but a way of life that is very healthy. It is pretty much how I have lost the weight even though I just discovered it a few months ago. It seems wonderful and not hard to follow at all. Let me know what you think of it and how you are doing. I wish you much continued success!
Blessings sweet friend. ~Melissa :)
Good for you for taking care of yourself!
ReplyDeleteI am currently a contestant on Win Lose or Blog. There are 8 of us and it has been really interesting! Here is the link to mine if you want to peep: http://winloseorblog-mindy.blogspot.com/
Kim...It does sound like a blood sugar issue...you may need more protein. I have been faithfully following Atkins since 3/8 and am down 35 pounds. I have another 35 to go but have never felt better in my life and have decided that the Atkins way is a way of life not a diet.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Gail
Kim,
ReplyDelete(Putting my nurse hat on) Are you drinking enough, are there any signs of dehydration (dark pee, sorry for the TMI)? Even mild dehydration can cause headaches and fuzzy thinking.
I agree with Gail about the protein. Can you eat Greek yogurt?
Christa
Good luck on your weight loss program...but you certainly are right, dieting is a headache!
ReplyDeleteI put on about 10-15 pounds in the last year or so due to menopause and it's.not.coming.off!! I'm so desparate, I joined Jenny Craig and today is my first day on the program. My problem too is not eating enough so I needed something to get my metabolism going. Although their turkey burger was terrible, I'm still hoping for success!
Good luck and keep us posted.
My 2 cents is exercise. I am not a good dieter, but I am a good exerciser. Even if it is just walking you need exercise. If you strength train it also helps. On The Biggest Loser show they always dieat and exercise.
ReplyDeleteI follow the "Eat for your Blood Type" very loosely - I am Type 0 - so no breads (I had already figured it out....I get super bloated and depressed). With 2 kids I find it hard to cook two separate meals. I haven't experienced dizziness....but that would cause concern! Anyhoo, good luck! Sandra
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on making the decision. I can't even get that far! Dieting gives me a headache too, and unfortunately, I've made that one of my excuses to not diet. Sounds like you have a great attitude about staying on the diet. I hope you can get it worked out so that you feel better while dieting. laurie
ReplyDeleteThank you for the encouraging shout-out, Kim! You are doing great -- Hang in there. I tried the "blood type" sort of diet one time before, although I didn't have as much info -- just a sheet of paper saying what I should and shouldn't eat. I was not very successful. You, however, are succeeding. I knew a lady who did the blood type diet and WOW -- it changed everything for her. Her hair got thick and gorgeous, her attitude changed (off those anti-depressants), her skin glowed. She was doing it through a holistic healer and he was a great help to her. She also had many health problems which completely went away. Best of luck to you! I have found that the people we love are the people who tend to be those who inadvertently sabotage our efforts to lose weight. No anymore! Kenny hides all his cookies in the car and doesn't buy ice cream anymore!
ReplyDelete((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))
Thanks for visiting -and- commenting on our little blog!
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work, girl! I bet that pizza was good though! I ate HALF of a pizza and HALF.. okay more than half.. of the CinnaStix last night..
So you are doing MUCH better than me. I have my hat tipped to you!
I'm a big fan of Body For Life - you eat all day long, and it's really easy. The whole family can eat the same foods. Make sure you get enough calories or your body might actually hang on to the weight rather than shed it.
ReplyDeleteYou take care of yourself! Never tried the blood type diet but had tons of success with South Beach. The first two weeks on South Beach diet are the toughest (getting used to low/good carbs)but you can eat 6 times a day!
ReplyDeleteGood luck...I'm heading to my treadmill
~~Nancy~~
Yikes, I'm on Day One of getting back on the wagon after a totally awful-hot-dog-and-pie-eating binge! I have a headache too...nothing but salad today.
